Having the privilege to work on a record at the legendary @sunsetsoundrecorders is a dream come true in and of itself... The history of the room, the sound of the space, and the endless array of top tier equipment is hard to beat, but the real magic comes from the players that bring the music to life. I'm beyond grateful for this special group of collaborators who helped bring the new @halletomlinson track "Gold" into the world 🎶

I'm always trying to pay homage to the great musical lineage that built hip-hop music in my productions. Whether it's taking inspiration from jazz, blues, rnb, rock or reggae I am always inspired to bring the influence of classic roots music into my modern productions... I'm super proud of how strongly those influences came through on the whole F.L.E.A. record, but especially the imprint of reggae and dub music that is so present with "On Silent" 🌴

My favorite thing about making music is the experience of capturing a moment in time.

The truth of this moment is that we knew it was special while it was happening. We knew what we were making was meaningful.

Not because we knew how people would respond to it. Not because we were certain it would be “successful.” But because it was coming from a real place.

We didn’t give a shit about what anyone else was doing. We weren’t chasing trends, trying to fit into a playlist, or rushing to keep up with the pace of the world around us. We took our time, trusted our instincts, and leaned into what we thought was cool.

I found a lot of peace in that process. Not worrying about what was supposed to work. Not chasing what was popular. Just trusting the work.

We just made classic records.

Records that tell the real story of my brother for life, Gordo Flea. Records that couldn’t have come from anyone else, and definitely wouldn’t exist if we had spent our time worrying about what was supposed to work.

Working with an artist like Gordo, someone who lives and breathes the art form and embodies the culture that shaped him, makes it easy to trust in the vision.

Sometimes you get lucky enough to be present for the creation of something that feels bigger than the moment it’s being made in.

This was one of those times, and I'm forever grateful.
