whew. this is very, very hard. the past month and a half has been the worst of my life. i didn’t want to post bc i didn’t know what to say. but i’m finding the words now.

simone isabella scott, my bestie, my OG, my sim1. this bright, vibrant, INTELLIGENT, young woman has been my sister since the second grade. we had several classes together at mason, i took her as my date to countless school dances, we celebrated birthdays together, we loved each other for over 10 years. i had the privilege of calling simone my friend. she was one of my go-to’s, my rock, she was always down to hang out & get a bite to eat. simone was the most respectful, smart, kind, and loving friend i’ve ever had. simone is the first person i came out to as gay even before MY PARENTS. that’s how much i trusted her and how loved and safe she made me feel. as scared as i was to come out to my friends and family, simone supported me like no other friend i had. i will never forget that. i will eternally be grateful for our friendship & our love for one another.

as much as i want you here on earth with me & the rest of our friends, you are no longer suffering & that is the only thing keeping me sane right now. last night, laying you to rest, was the hardest thing i’ve ever done. seeing you solidified everything and i wasn’t ready to accept it. but i have no choice. i cried so hard for you. i cried about the fact that you’re gone, that fact that God took you and not me, the fact that we can never hang out again. but then again, i found peace in knowing that you’re peaceful & at rest. this past month, you fought for your life & God relieved you of your pain. i’m just waiting for Him to relieve me of mine. i love you for the rest of eternity, simone. you are forever in my heart. i cannot believe you’re gone. a bright, brilliant soul is watching over me right now & i couldn’t be more grateful. see you on the other side, my love. 💜 by @jay.whitlock

a toast to north carolina a&t. where confidence was instilled, character was built, & an engineer was formed. my 4 years at a&t were ordained by God Himself. i’m endlessly grateful for all the opportunities my hbcu has provided me. none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of friends turned family, along with the administration, faculty, and colleagues who believed in me.

as i step into the new year and a new season of my life that i have prayed for, i want to thank God for what He has done this past year and i look forward to what He has in store for me in 2026.

psalm 27:1 reads “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”. this verse has been my stronghold throughout my collegiate journey & i plan to continue to hold His words near my heart moving forward. i thank You Lord for Your everlasting grace and strength. without You, i wouldn’t have made it. taken in North Carolina A&T State University by @jay.whitlock
