Jay Almaraz, our first collaborator and a well seasoned director who has displayed both ambition and vulnerability throughout his career. He’s yet to cease with his newest film Damaged Windows, catch it on YouTube August 1st. In the meantime, meet @jay_a997 Can you tell us what inspired the film - After a two-year hiatus from writing and directing, I endured multiple heartbreaks, friendship/family estrangements, and a loss of identity. When I started therapy in 2024, it triggered a spiritual awakening. This inspired a brand-new concept: the collision between facing the unknown and self-care. It pushed me into the drama genre for the first time, leading to a promise in 2025 to turn those elements into a film. what was your experience making it - It felt like a total refresh. After helping other filmmakers, getting my own creative juices flowing again felt like a wave pushing me onto a new path—especially working with the creative team at A&E (Æ) and Danny, my cinematographer, who immediately understood the vision for my new film style that I want to keep pursuing. what’s next for you - I’m getting very close to turning 30, and right now at this moment has me wanting to blend coming-of-age and horror—like if John Hughes, Kevin Williamson, John Carpenter, and Wes Craven teamed up. I want to make the movie my younger self would have loved to watch and escape from the world, treating it as both a love letter and a goodbye to my 20s and my youth. #comingsoon #indiefilm #movie #cinema #filmproduction taken in El Paso, Texas by @jay_a997
