Not even sure where to begin - but it’s been weighing on my heart to share my testimony.

In 2017/18 during uni & placement, I went to my GP(s) on several different occasions, complaining about pain in my bladder. Fast forward to 12/12/2019, I was diagnosed with conditions called Cystitis Cystica & Cystitis Glandularis, essentially tumours in my bladder, and underwent my first surgery (a Trans-Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumour, or TURBT) to resect it. I’ve since had 6 more of those surgeries, because the tumour kept growing back, and another surgery called a Uretric Reimplantation, to relocate my Ureters as the tumour was spreading and affecting them too. I was also told there was an 80% chance that all the surgeries would affect fertility.

Once or twice a year, I’d be in a hospital bed, drowsy from the anaesthesia, wondering when it would all be over, when I’d be healed and feel normal again, no longer thinking about a tumour that could potentially turn cancerous.

I’m not sure if that brought me closer to God, or I was going to naturally progress that way, but what I do know is God has healed me. A tumour, which doctors couldn’t explain, and were unsure why a fit 22yo was in the hospital, suffering from a condition more common in people thrice his age, has been eradicated. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a lonely place. I used to search on the internet and attempt to join support groups, to find people my age, with the same condition. Unfortunately I didn’t find someone experiencing what I was.

I almost didn’t believe it when I heard there was no longer a tumour, and begged them to do more tests to see. I say all of this to say, in the words of Matthew 19:26, ‘With God, all things are possible’. I suffered 8 surgeries in 6 years, but always prayed as though I knew my healing was around the corner, and here I am today, tumourless. The healing process is long and I still take painkillers daily, but I’d rather do that than see a catheter ever again.

Whatever you’re suffering with, just know you’re not alone. Cherish life, your loved ones, and pray - but before all that, seek & love God.
