I’m excited to be one of the speakers during the PCTA’s ( @pctassociation ) The Trail Changes Us session this weekend at PCT Days! @pctdays

Please join us on Saturday at 2:30 at the main stage. I’ll be sharing some of my experiences from my 2021 PCT thru hike and reflections from my book: Five Million Steps. I’m excited to announce the release of a new leadership book, “Stars and Stripes; Generals, Chiefs, and Leadership…in 500 Words!”

What an honor it is to be amongst the one hundred General Officers and Chief Master Sergeants who each contributed a chapter to this project led by Major General (retired) Brad Spacy and Chief Master Sergent (retired) Jose Lugo Santiago.

Each of us shares a piece of leadership wisdom….distilled down to 500 words – concise, easy to read, direct, powerful, and immediately actionable.

From combat operations to culture-shaping decisions, we represent every Air Force specialty. We’ve had the privilege of leading at every level, mentored thousands of Airmen, and now share our most critical lessons with you.

All proceeds from this book go directly to the Air and Space Force Aid Society, which helps Airmen and Guardians when they need it most.

Inside the iconic John Muir Memorial Shelter. June 2021 during my hike of the Pacific Crest Trail…and September 2025 during my hike of the John Muir Trail. One of my favorite spots and memories of both trails. Hands down for me…southbound was more difficult…went NOBO on the PCT, SOBO on the JMT….and the SOBO descent from Muir Pass had my knees SCREAMING!! #johnmuirtrail #pacificcresttrail #muirpass by @jay_f_adventures

John Muir Trail hike complete…and what an incredible experience! 16 days…220 miles….over 40,000 feet of climbs and descents..and no cell service for 12 days. We faced thunderstorms and rain on most days, a few hail storms, some freezing temps, and smoke from the nearby Garnet Fire, but were rewarded after every challenge we faced with amazing views. Pretty awesome to share the experience with a friend I’ve known since third grade. Stirring up trouble for over 45 years!

A few photos from our first five days in the John Muir Trail. We’ve had daily thunderstorms, rain, and some hail….but were rewarded with incredible views after every storm passed….and we’re still having a blast. It’s time to hit the trail again for my next adventure! Starting the John Muir Trail in about a week. 200+ miles from Yosemite National Park, passing through the Ansel Adams and John Muir Wildernesses, and Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks...and finishing with a summit of Mt. Whitney.
