The time has come… it’s race week! Wednesday at 9 AM Türkiye time (1 AM MTN time), we’ll be taking on the inaugural Taurus Mountain Race.

We are beyond grateful. We recognize the work and effort it takes from the organizers to give us this opportunity. 🙏

It takes a village, and we’d like to express how thankful we are for all the support that has surrounded us and helped us get to this point.

Jay has a very big and special thank you to his wife, Tracey, after a long and challenging three years to get to where he is today.

Jacob wants to give a shoutout to his roommates and close friends who helped him through this summer, and to his parents for being his biggest fans and day one supporters. You guys have been there to pick him up at every finish line, usually getting a shell of a racer. ❤️

Not using a backpack/hydropack, keeping bags to a minimum, and not having things mounted to the fork legs or rack legs has proven to be a puzzle level of "difficult" by @jay_petervary

It's been a while.
This isn't a comeback its a continuation. I didn't take a break from sport; getting hit by a vehicle forced me.
Now, three years later I am getting back to a proper mountain bikepack race. I'm so stoked!
In 10 days I'm leaving for the inaugural @taurusmountainrace. A 900 mile track through the mountains of Turkey with a 120k feet in climbing. That also means 120k of descending! 😎
Things sure do sneak up quick when you finally commit and accept the invitation 2 months before the start. My entire racing career was last minute so nothing different here.
I've been working on the cliff notes of fitness cramming since I committed. I'll be fine. I'm bringing a tow rope so Jacob can pull me around.
I don't have a built bike yet but I've built bikes way closer to race starts.
What I do have is a revisit of feelings that I remember and even missed.
Nervous wouldn't be the right word... I've done plenty of this stuff. It's more like an excitement of anticipation for a sport I really enjoy playing.
I don't know what my racing ability is nowadays but Im curious of what both my physical and mental capacity is as well as what I'm even willing to do. I'm glad to have some experience to rely on to help with some of this.
While riding I've been visualizing the travel, starting, riding through the night, running from dogs, weird sleep situations, local interactions, finishing and being around the community.
I definitely haven't been comparing gear choices and weighing every item. 😜
I love the process.
Having a porter to share this journey with isn't just going to be more enjoyable but it's going to lighten my load! Seniority has its privileges.

The duo is back together and getting stoked for the @taurusmountainrace in a few weeks.

It’s been 5 years since Jay and I raced as a pair. The Silk Road Mountain Race was the last one, and I’m happy to say I’ve learned a few things since then.

I’m currently a senior in college and have been gaining more experience in racing, life, etc. I’m finally old enough to have that finish line beer everyone talks about. Although, I still haven’t had one with Jay. I vote we make the first one after our Taurus pairs win… 🍻

Jay, well, he almost didn’t make it this far… Now in his 50s and entering his 20th year of bikepacking racing, he brings wisdom and grit like no other athlete I know. His ability to problem solve, stay positive, and push through hard things is impressive. These are skills that aren’t taught but acquired through years of hard work, something I try to practice in every race.

We both have our own set of skills that we bring to the table, but we also share a lot in common. There will be plenty of sarcasm and good laughs out there. We’re also both very motivated to compete at a first year event with so many unknowns…

You haven't noticed but I haven't posted anything to the grid in awhile. I've also cut back on my scrolling time. It was a combination of being really busy and I just kind of lost interest here. Breaks are good.

Summer! Summer was and has been very good. Its been filled mostly with, surprise, bike things - work and pleasure. I recommend combining the two if you can. 😎

Kicked things off in May with a bikepack workshop, followed by a "Bro-Down Tour", and prepared for summer knowing it was going to be full throttle for a bit. In June I played chaperone guide on two different Great Divide Route gigs. I got to play gravel event Race Director for our Backyard Rally event in July, had some random day guiding, and did some rips with friends because mountain bikes are the best. Two weeks ago I took a breathe of air, even if hot, touring across CO which was a nice reset, and on the days between all that I built out another short-term rental on our property, The Riders Nest.

I feel like the water is slack tide at the moment which is quite nice as I clean up and reorganize our home, my inbox, and my brain.

My personality always needs a project to focus on so what's next is something I am currently moving some chess pieces around for... more to come.

Throwback to last year’s Teton Valley Backyard Rally 🚵‍♀️⛰️
Gravel roads, big Teton views, and an even bigger community turnout — last year’s rally had it all. From the 120-mile crusher to the family-friendly Fun Rally, riders of every stripe came together in Victor to circle the valley, dust off some backroads, and celebrate the west side of the Tetons the way we do best.
Aid stations stocked, stoke flowing, this is what community-powered gravel racing looks like.
TVBR is back Saturday, July 25th, 2026. Same dirt, same views, same good people. Whether you’re chasing the podium or just here for the vibes, there’s a route with your name on it.

It’s been a hot sunny summer so far, and TVBR has your back. Literally.
