Exactly 2 years since the day I escaped death. In an instant my life changed. I went from a normal teen to fighting for my life. In a hospital bed filled with machines, fear, pain, and uncertainty, not knowing what would happen. There were moments I didn’t know if my body would ever feel like mine again or if I’d ever be normal. But here’s what I’ve learned: surviving something like that doesn’t just make you strong, it makes you aware of how fragile life is, who truly shows up, and what really matters. It forces you to grow up faster. I’m not the same girl I was before the hospital. I carry more gratitude and don’t take the simple things for granted, like walking, laughing, breathing, eating, the sun, hugging the people I love. Something like this doesn’t just change you, it changes everyone around you. It shifts your family dynamic in ways you don’t expect. Roles change. Conversations get heavier. You see fear in everyone’s eyes. But you also see who struggles to stay, who walks out without saying goodbye because they’re upset, and you see who, even in your own family, doesn’t show up the way you thought they would. It’s painful but it’s clarifying. You learn who sits in uncomfortable hospital chairs for hours, who cries, who refuses to leave. And you never look at those relationships the same again. The hardest part is the story didn’t end when I left the hospital. It’s still unfolding. Since then, my health hasn’t been simple. Having new diagnoses, new symptoms, new uncertainties. It’s exhausting fighting battles people can’t always see. Sometimes it feels like I escaped one storm just to keep learning how to survive new ones. But with that, I’ve learned resilience I never knew. I’ve learned how to sit with fear and keep moving. Two years later, I don’t just see that day as the worst day of my life. I see it as the day that reshaped me. The day that showed me how strong I actually am. The day that forced me to fight. If you’re reading this and you’re in the middle of something that feels impossible please KEEP GOING. You have no idea how strong you are until you have no choice but to be. taken in Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital by @jayde.ostler
