New poem up in the July issue of @australianbookreview ✨ With gargantuan thanks to ABR’s poetry editor @felicity_plunkett for this invitation, and for the incredible work she is doing in bringing such fine poems and poets to us in these pages. It’s an honour to be in the company of so many poets and writers I admire. Included above are two other recent poems I adore from the magazine (ushered-in by Felicity) by Josephine Rowe @arrow_in_the_gale and a perennial favourite of mine @pinestereo Thanks, too, to the team @australianbookreview & to @richiehof for sonnet inspiration, always Link in bio to read it on the website by @jayekranz
I’m overjoyed and honoured to have won the Plaza Poetry Prize (60 lines) judged by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Natalie Diaz — a poet whose work I adore and admire immensely. To have one’s poems read at all, let alone by one of your poet-heroes, and to have them reflect so generously on the poem, is a gift beyond measure. I have shared Diaz’s comments here, along with the poem. My immense gratitude to Natalie Diaz @ndinn and to the Plaza Prize for the encouragement of this — and for all you do for poetry. Congrats to all the longlist and shortlistees. I look forward to holding and reading all the poems when the Anthology is published later in the year. If you haven’t read Diaz’s ‘Postcolonial Love Poem’ or ‘My Brother Was An Aztec’ I recommend them to you highly! by @jayekranz
