Michhami Dukkadam 🙏✨

As the sacred days of Paryushan draw to a close, today marks Samvatsari—the holiest day in the Jain calendar and the ultimate Day of Forgiveness.🌿

Derived from the ancient Prakrit language, the phrase literally translates from its Sanskrit equivalent, “Mithya me duskrtam”. “Michchha” means to become void or fruitless, “Mi” means my, and “Dukkadam” means bad deeds. Essentially, it means: “May all the bad deeds I have done be made fruitless and forgiven.” It is an act of proactive humility to ensure that any emotional walls built over the past year are dissolved completely.

phrase is found deep within historic Jain texts and monastic

Today, this tradition extends beyond just human relationships. It is a universal prayer to ask forgiveness from all living beings—visible or invisible, big or small—whom we might have harmed knowingly or unknowingly through our thoughts, words, or actions. With folded hands and an open heart, if I have ever caused you pain, directly or indirectly: Michhami Dukkadam.

🤍🕊️“Khamemi Savve Jiva, Savve Jiva Khamantu Me.Mitti Me Savva Bhuyesu, Veram Majjham Na Kenai.”(I grant forgiveness to all living beings, may all living beings grant me forgiveness. My friendship is with all living beings, my enmity is totally non-existent.) 🌸
