I am so incredibly overjoyed to be able to announce that I will be going on the road with the FIRST national touring company of Some Like it Hot. That still doesn’t feel real to say but there are graphics with my face on it so I guess I better believe it!I’ll be tapping away in the ensemble and some times getting to take the incredible journey of the character, Jerry/Daphne, so brilliantly and inspirationally portrayed last season by none other than the GOAT, J. Harrison Ghee. I’ve been acting professionally for 3 years now, but now I guess being in the union makes me a professional actor in more people’s eyes and there are many people to thank for that milestone. I have to thank my mother, who has never ever stifled a dream of mine in my life. No matter what I wanted, you’ve only ever made me feel like I could be anything, I’d be nothing without your endless love support and sacrifice. I thank my agents, @katie.murphy & @violetstephania , because you constantly fill in any shadow of disbelief I may have in myself with the light of your unwavering support and faith in my talents, work ethic and ability. I wouldn’t be the artist I am without the palpable confidence you guys have in me, I’m so lucky.I want to thank my best friends, Dylan, Pua, Ethan and Liv because I would NOT be half the artist or man that I am today without the friendship we have shared over the last five (almost 6) years! They say surround yourself with people who are better than you so that they inspire you to be better and each of you have done nothing shy of pushing me toward my zenith. I hope I do the same for y’all and that we continue it for the rest of our lives. And final thank you for this post to every teacher I’ve ever had, especially my SU faculty 🍊, but ultimately to Mr. Daniel Winkler, my first ever theater teacher and mentor who saw me come into an audition room for the first time ever, dumbfounded, and still believed there was something in me that was made for this. Opened The Wedding Singer @engemantheater on Saturday. Being a part of team dance for this show has been nothing short of amazing and something that 16 year old Jay would never believe to be true. Dance is a discipline that came later to me and yet immediately became a science I wanted to master. I’ve exercised skills that I didn’t even know I had and gained ones I didn’t know I needed. It is without a doubt some of the hardest work I’ve gotten to do in theatre and yet some of the most rewarding, especially when you have a company so dedicated, passionate, hardworking, attentive and brilliant as these folks. What a special evening it was and experience it was been so far and I’m excited to continue working hard onstage and off with these glorious humans, alongside my unbelievably talented ADC @regan__white. We run from now until August 23rd, if you have the time, hop on the train out to Long Island and transport yourself back to the 80s for a couple hours of fun, ferocity and love. Off to the first day of rehearsals for The Wedding Singer @engemantheater! I’m honored to be dance captaining and performing in the ensemble for this production, many thanks to my agents @pmtheagency , Paul and Jacob, the team at the John W Engeman Theater and special shoutout to all the dance faculty back at Syracuse. I’m very grateful to be continuing to pursue this career 9 years after I first discovered it. I’m a very lucky actor and I don’t take the opportunities I’ve received lightly in the slightest. It has been a joy. It’s always been a dream for me, and to have it realized is beyond blessings I could’ve imagined for myself. I’m grateful to every single person who made this show possible, and grateful to have been involved in even the smallest of capacities is an opportunity I do not take lightly. I feel as though I’ve grown exponentially as an actor and an artist, nightly rising to the occasion set by such brilliant artists that I hope to continue learning from up close or afar. I hope our paths cross again soon and hope we can keep sharing such important stories and reminding each other of truths that make us better humans. It is the artist’s duty after all. Thrilled to be living my Hinton Battle dreams playing John in the @shortnorthstage production of Miss Saigon. This has always been one of the most important shows in the canon to me and its poignancy in our current culture is not lost on me. I’m grateful to be making a professional principal debut with such important material that I hope will not only give weight to the places we have been and have forgotten but also opens our eyes to the places we’re headed if we choose not to remember. It is nothing short of an epic piece and this is going to be a stellar interpretation. I’m in awe of the talent, passion, compassion and care in the room. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking for all of you. The heat is indeed, on. Big ups to my agents as always and forever for caring so deeply about the things that are important to me and supporting and joining my pursuit of those goals, Chari, Edward and Cindy for seeing a John in me and of course to all of you who, whether you see the show or not, will hopefully take a moment to reflect on the ways in which we may have dishonored the universality of the human experience and work toward remedying it in our personal and greater societies.
