How I see the world is through images. So enjoy the moments I capture to tell my story!

Happy 102 Birthday Virginia Ada Hankins Keane. Your 1st birthday not physically embodied yet fully embrace by source by GOD. Your 1st birthday fully perfectly divinely empowered by peace! Since your passing in December I have been able to witness, read, gather and see what a life lived in spirit can look like and what a life driven by LOVE is. This Saturday we will celebrate that life drawing on your existing tribe to weave a tapestry befitting of your century long legacy. On the holy ground of Dunbarton Chapel at Howard University campus. A prestigious institution you did not just get your masters from yet devoted 39 years of your life to develop, awaken, and enhance as the first Director of Social Service at the Howard University Hospital. May you continue to be a beacon of LIFE, grace and compassion in my life softening my hard time and hardness. May I continue to be a vessel to manifest your soulful healing and radiant sunshine! Love you Ma Keane.

If you are in the DC area & fully vaccinated please join us in person or check out the service on live stream at www.VirginiaKeane.com. 11 am Saturday, March 26, 2022. by @jaymc86

PART 2: Ahead of “America, Who Hurt You?” NBT's Chief Executive Officer Sade Lythcott (@sade1111) and Executive Artistic Director Jonathan McCrory (@jaymc86) went live for a deep dive into our 26/27 season theme, Just Beyond The Horizon.

Through our five productions, Just Beyond the Horizon explores identity, belonging, love, self-determination, healing, and hope. Together, these works affirm a truth that has guided National Black Theatre since its founding: the future is not something we inherit; it is something we create. Just beyond the horizon lies the possibility of a more liberated world, and through art, community, and collective action, we move toward it together.

Throughout the day, we will be sharing quotes from some of our producers past and present on Woodie King, Jr.

He is with us today, and we look forward to honoring him in this way.

Our next quote is from one of the Founding producers of Harlem9, Jonathan McCrory. Jonathan is currently the Executive Artistic Director of Dr. Barbara Ann Teer’s @natblacktheatre in Harlem.

“You pinned me as a Torch Bearer for Black Theatre, placed a physical object on me that would pass on a part of your legacy, commitment, fortitude, and love onto me. Love for the craft and love for our people love for the culture and love for gathering. You never gave up on exploring and embodying the possibilities of the craft to shift and change lives. Thank you for changing my life and not just being a mentor, a pioneer, or any of your crowned titles — yet for being my friend. Thank you for the years of deep friendship and for allowing me to see the kind of doors I can blaze wide open when I lead with my truth. Here is to your flame, lit through the generations you have given a part of your life to, and like shards of a diamond, given so generously all of us the inheritance to claim our wealth, to own our story.”

We sat down with our Tank Stranger crew, Director Jamil Jude, Playwright James Ijames, and Dramaturg Johnathan McCrory, to talk about the origins of The Drinking Gourd, a national program focused on bringing resources to the development and production of work by Black playwrights.

James Ijames’ play, Tank Stranger, is the first work in the consortium to be produced, and we are SO excited about it.

The road to becoming is a journey, not a destination. ✨

For Jonathan McCrory, creating spaces where people can show up authentically begins with continuing that work within himself. #12DaysOfPride by @jaymc86

There are moments that live in the body long after the night is over. 🖤✨

Before the magic officially began, @jaymc86 Jonathan McCrory of the legendary @natblacktheatre who not only produced this years show but stood before our community and filled every soul in the room with the words we needed to hear. This is what it looks like when Black women feel truly seen, truly celebrated, truly held. 🌹

A true visionary. A true accomplice. A true steward of the culture. We thank you immensely.
