My first trail race! I’ve been telling myself I’m not a runner for a long time, that my body’s not meant for it with bowed calves from hockey.

But Kara got the Bear Mountain event up and I said fuck it and committed to the 8k and started hitting the track (and a lot of stairs) with Shelb.

I was hoping to just finish it without stopping but I ended up surprising myself with 6th overall and 5th in the mens and it’s got me feeling a healthy dose of competitiveness for the first time in a while!

It felt awesome to do it with good friends, and make new friends in the awesome community heads or trails brings together.

I’ve had my belief system and spiritual foundation rocked again and again in the last 5 years – things I thought would never break. I’ve been on a journey through my health and identity lately trying to rebuild that.

Elder Vern passed on today.

He taught me everything should be simple.

He’d say “it takes a genius to make something simple, that’s how I know I’m so smart.”

His sense of humour always cracked us up. He showed us not to take ourselves too seriously.

When I would call him for guidance he would tell me “You’re doing good things, you have a good heart. That’s what matters. Just move forward in a good way. Do what you have to do. Ignore everything else.”

It was always about moving forward, never back. It was always about doing good and holding love in your heart.

He was always there with open arms. While also unwavering in mind and spirit.

He told me to invite people in. He said if someone wants to make an enemy out of you I just invite them over for a sweat. They can come see for themselves. We’ll heal their hurt.

And that he did. He healed many. He offered rare and needed Elderhood in a world of Adolescence.

For many of us close to him, we know he’d check in on us now and then.

Often at just the right time, like he could feel it.

I could feel something had shifted today. But instead of feeling into it, I tried to push my focus to the daily tasks.

I had a sign last night, and another today, to call him. But I didn’t.

That’s no worry because he showed us where to find him.

He’s moved on, with full access to all of his being, and we all know he’ll keep checking in.

So touch the ground, and listen.

Be with the trees and feel the wind.

The essence of spirit never dies.

Anyone who’s having a cry for Vern tonight I’m right here with ya, and I’m sure we’ll see each other soon ❤️

The 🪵🔥 hot tub is here! We were going to get a normal size tub… then we figured nah let’s get one that fits us and 10 friends 🤷🏻‍♂️

This was our second trial run and happy to say it works well!

We added some serious upgrades thanks to our friend @taintedaura and more to come.

Vern (our Elder) sends me photos and links on Facebook every so often, I’m sure he does this with a handful of people so a few of you beautiful friends may have gotten this as well, here’s something he sent this morning. It was a special experience getting to spend some days of travel and one-on-one time with him and Mumsie last month with @shelbyfriesenn and both sides of our family. Good conversations, informed perspectives, simple lessons. by @jaymiefriesenn

Reasons why I love our love specifically…

Our love recognizes and actively works to explore and break down restrictions that “traditional” relationships often have. We encourage each other to tear down those walls and get out and live life. Whether it be co-dependency, monogamy, or subconscious emotions applying that restrictiveness in ways our love doesn’t agree with. We make our own path.

Our love knows that it isn’t responsible for our happiness or whatever fairytale feeling we may want. We do the work as individuals because two healthy, fulfilled people make for an amazing partnership.

Our love challenges us to grow – historically in drastic ways we need it most and ways we least see coming. We take the journey together and are grateful for the growth, no matter how tough.

Our love recognizes the black sheep in the other, and naturally becomes deeper, and more unconditional.

While it may ebb and flow on the surface, like all things, spiritually/energetically it’s unwavering and forever entangled.

What a journey, what a time, what a place… on this little dust ball Earth.

Our first retreat together! Discoveries were made. Deep connection was had.

I once told @sarahlangeman about a new business I was starting. She said something along the lines of “that’s great, I hope you follow through with this one”. (In the most encouraging way possible)
.
It’s probably been 10 years since then, you may not even remember it, but it’s always stuck with me.
.
I was mad at myself, because I knew I did too much of what was easy.
.
The dreaming and planning.
.
The moral of the story… get yourself a chainsaw.
.
Do the good work, learn to enjoy it. Nothing else to over complicate.
.
Notice how I wrote not just any work, but good work.
.
Work that helps you, your family, your community, and Mother Earth.
.

Jax the dog. My guardian. Bears and cougars wandering the road, but nothing larger than a gofer within eyesight since we’ve moved in.
.
The universe brought this guy to me at the right time. Jax, @byalexemmanuel and I’s journey’s intersected perfectly and I’m grateful for it every day.
.
Always nearby, always leading the charge. He’s joyful, perfectly entertaining, and lives a life that’s mostly of his own free will.
.
It’s an honour that he enjoys spending it with me, as much as I him.
.

Upcoming drum making, dream catchers and time with Elders Vern and Mumsie from In-SHUCK-ch Nation.

Vern and Mumsie have been guides, family, and friends to many people in our circle.
.
They’ve been guides for us as we journey deeper into our culture, which our family lineage was separated from and has been difficult to find.
.
We want to invite you on that journey if it speaks to you.

This very special retreat will include:

- Make your own drum, and at the end of the weekend learn the Women’s Warrior song
- Make a dream catcher, including choosing and harvesting the red willow from our land

My boy died. A once-in-a-lifetime kind of soul. Rare to meet, and a great blessing to have lived our lives together.
.
His spirit was ready to go, I could feel it. An owl landed overhead to watch and flew off as Ryd passed, a blessing of passing from the animal kingdom.
.
I might be turned to ash too if it wasn’t for him. We did it all, we raised each other.
.
Tears of joy for one hell of a brother and child.
.
From the moment of intuition when we first met to the special moment of your leaving... the universe gave us an everlasting gift.

OFFICIAL LAUNCH DAY! It's like Disneyland, a Scandivian spa and a yogi all somehow procreated onto 160 acres of off-grid nature.

We're overworked, chasing things we don't need, getting addicted to our phones, and buying things that aren't good for us or the planet.

These are problems we aren't given the answers to growing up. We were never properly equipped for life.
.
The mental health, physical health, and environmental stats show us this is true and getting worse.
.
Even as a kid, it was VERY apparent...
.
There's a better way to live.
.
And it doesn't have to be in the future or "one day"... we have everything we need right now.
.
THAT is what Azhen is. Immersion in natural conscious living, with modern day comforts.

A place I can go where wearing my favourite unemployed shirt is a sense of pride instead of a joke. Here’s to the feeling of belonging somewhere, where I can be me with all my fucked up humour (only got me in trouble once so far!), where deep learning and growth meet partying until the sun comes up, and where you can break down mental walls through having epiphanies from a simple conversation (with all you awesome smart mother fuckers) or on the other hand casually enjoy a variety of psychedelics. Just a big lovely array of high functioning people and great energy with a common thread and I love every minute of it! Big thanks to everyone that created this and was a part of it this year, all my love for being you 🎉 @baby.bathwater by @jaymiefriesenn
