My debut single as Forwander is out today. Ambient music has been tugging at me for years and at the start of this year I promised myself that 2025 would be the year I finally committed to developing a live ambient set. This track grew out of that process with slow shifts, morphing textures, and the kind of gradual change that feels almost geological compared to the energy of my Jayms Joyce work.

I will be performing this piece along with a set of unreleased Forwander tracks at @chill.adelphia this Sunday (11 AM – 1 PM) at Art on the Ridge alongside the ambient and experimental trio The Triangels. Hope to see you there. by @jaymsjoyce

Jump Phenomena is out now.

The title comes from nonlinear dynamics: sudden shifts that happen after a long, steady buildup. That’s the energy of this track, which builds like it’s about to break, releases, then pulls back before the snap.

Jimmy Goodman, cofounder of TransporterRaum in NYC where The Strokes and Blonde Redhead recorded, and I built this track from a jam at Nick Cislak’s Kensington studio almost two years ago. We chopped and reshaped those recordings into something restless, volatile, and jungle-inspired.

It feels like the world right now, tension on the edge of a sudden break.

Disorient Nation is out now.

I’m releasing this track at a time when everything feels like it’s falling apart. The systems we rely on keep unraveling, replaced by something colder and more detached.

The song moves through a mournful verse, a pleading bridge, and a chorus where the energy shifts towards outright defiance.

The cover reflects that arc too… a blurred figure, pummeled by noise and debris. Fraying, but still holding on.

Illuminate Kensington drew thousands of people into East Kensington to enjoy locally sourced, community-driven projection art and music. Now we’re doing it again with Illuminate Passyunk, Friday 10/2, 7-11 PM.

The two blocks of Passyunk Ave between Tasker and Dickinson will be shut down, with musicians performing and dozens of projection artists illuminating the neighborhood. The event is FREE and family-friendly. Hope to see you there.

Rescanning a Commodore 1802 CRT in 4K with a camera to pull a clean 3K x 3K square for cover art on an upcoming single. Standard def signal on the Hypno and CRT doesn’t always upscale cleanly to that resolution, so I’m testing this process as a workaround. My distribution service requires 3K x 3K for streaming, hence the 4k video capture.

Feed’s coming from a Hypno video synthesizer. One layer is processed retro CGI, the other’s a Hypno-generated shape. The feedback is what gives everything that receding, pulled-into-the-screen look.

A couple weeks ago I sat down with my Waldorf Q and Microcosm with no goal but to record some clips. It got me thinking about doing something similar to what I’ve been doing with VJ loops, building up a library over time and pulling from it to make compositions. Nothing planned out yet, just an idea I’m poking at with no guarantee it becomes anything. There’s something in that lack of a plan that feels like rejecting the rat race a little. Especially right now, when the discourse around music is so pushed by AI, social media, and streaming toward more output, more optimization, more scale.

(BTW, The lag between my hands and the sound is the Microcosm. It’s a granular pedal, so it chops the signal into little grains and reassembles them, and at 100% wet that takes a second to kick in.) by @jaymsjoyce
