New York Climate Week
A lesson in resilience
The world is on fire
Flooded
Smoked out

Trees clearcut. Thousands of years
erased in a single second

We unify
We connect
We gather as family

Community is what brought us here
In the biggest city of cities
Your star shines bright here
But that could also be the heat dome

We hope for days where
We see the world as it lives and breathes
Not as a slave to serve humans

We hope for days where
We can gather in joy and hope
And not strategize how to prevent global collapse

I hope for a day
When I don't have to do my job anymore
And I can do frivolous things instead. by @jayseesee

A sunset in Scarborough
With dust in the eyes
from holes being drilled
Connecting the East to the city
Rapid Transit, I suppose

Connecting my heart to home

Where families ties and bloodlines arise
Where food tastes the sweetest and
the globe is in your backyard
Where we drive too much and hangout in parking lots
Where we love a good shopping mall to do nothing
Where we BBQ in a park and watch fireworks in the evening
Where we have friends of every race, religion, and ethnicity
Where we know who we are, but still feel like back home is missing

Home is ever changing
Home transforms with each sunset
But here, I feel at home by @jayseesee

Summer nights, chair sightings, and lowriders
The lives we live in a lifetime
The story arcs that unfold in a single day

A season is more than changing weather
Blowing wind breathe freshness
Rains wash away the stale
Soil births new life
Frost slows to meditation
Sun warms the spirit

New friendships
Ties to places that never existed before today
To make the unfamiliar familiar

Hopefully there's a future
And we're together again by @jayseesee

A series of signs.
House numbers without a street
mean nothing without neighbours.

There are places that don't use numbers
to mark homes. When you send a letter,
you address it, "the red house by the rock,
not the boulder, beside the crooked
tree that bears cherries."

The magic of knowing where we are,
determined by people, places,
and things. The hope of knowing
where home is. Marked by a sign
that you screwed in yourself. In a
house that you chose.

Maybe a number means nothing.
Maybe we just need to get to know
our neighbours. by @jayseesee

Built like porcelain
Hardened by time

Heat scolds the skin
Like rock, I drop
Shatter proof

A story buried
Under layers of paint
I grow faint
As I'm told

To grow up
But up is the only
Direction I know
