Lost at sea

I have to start,
Living,
On my own terms now,
For how long,
Will I let,
What happened to me,
Define me,
For how long,
Will I bear,
The burden,
Of what I did,
Constantly,
Hold me back,
From what I want to do,
These tides,
That sank my ship,
I will not,
Let them threaten,
The plank I’m on,
For I’m close to the shore,
And now they’re not as huge,
As they were,
That stormy night,
In the middle of the sea.

It is the same sea,
Perhaps,
But,
This one’s forgiving.

I’ve paddled,
And survived,
For way too long,
Lost,
Abandoned,
Amidst this storm,
That is now defining me,
But,
I want to muster,
A little courage,
To ask for more,
Than just survival,
I didn’t come this far,
To not see the dawn.

I can sit by the shore,
And think of the storm,
That raged on,
Or I can thank the same sea,
And walk away,
Let go,
Let that plank,
Be swallowed back,
My hopes,
My dreams,
Were only to survive,
Back then,
Now,
They seek light,
They seek warmth,
For loneliness wasn’t a choice back then,
But,
It will be one,
Now.

Part 1

It’s far from perfect, but this is my first step towards sharing who I really am, underneath the music, the poetry, and all the other forms of art I’ve shared here so far.

I’m quite new to this, so I’m a little nervous, but stay tuned for Part 2. by @jaythakkarmusic

March(ing) On!

Rumbling,
Reigning,
Rising,
The voice of courage,
A war cry,
Within,
One shall lose,
The victorious,
Defines the path,
One’s walking on graves,
The other,
Trotting over grasslands,
One seeks light,
Unending,
The other refuses,
To shed ties.

A voice,
That signaled,
The dawn,
The arrival of light,
Within me,
Not one,
That shamed or belittled,
Or abandoned the other,
On the contrary,
Erupted from it,
The one that was shackled,
In shadows,
Regrets,
Shame,
Cycles of guilt,
Finally screamed,
The verses of glory,
The chorus of worthiness.

The other,
Now left with no choice,
Surrendered,
To this war cry,
Handed fate over,
The one tainted with gloom,
With shades not so bright,
It lay down,
Knowing,
Courage will prevail,
The voice of dreams,
The voice of resilience,
Against all odds,
Will,
Inevitably,
Always win. by @jaythakkarmusic

This was especially challenging to sing without an instrument or a tanpura, but I wanted to do justice to this hauntingly beautiful melody sung by @sanjithhegde for the film Aap Jaisa Koi.

It took me a few takes to get close to my vision of it, and I hope you can feel the melancholic yet calming energy of this version.

Took the liberty of pulling this one out of the archives cause I’m still struggling to sing. I needed a soothing version of this song in my current state, and the version of me from a few weeks ago happened to create just that.

Sonically, this isn’t my best, but emotionally this hits all the right notes, at least for me. This is yet another cover that hits the authenticity mark I’ve been chasing for a while, over perfection. May this soothe your soul like it did mine. 🕉️ taken in Mumbai - मुंबई by @jaythakkarmusic

This is as authentic as it gets. I have been pretty vocal about my phase of burnout here, and those of you who are close to me know how painful and somber the last few weeks have been.

I have not been able to sing or breathe properly, with blocked nostrils on top of the burnout, but I just wanted to sit and hum this melody. I wanted to claim at least one moment in this phase of uncertainty where I could say, I showed up for myself and my art.

I promised I would show up consistently for my music here, and this is an imperfect way of keeping it. 🤍 by @jaythakkarmusic

2025 was pretty rough, and I’ve spoken about that in my earlier post, but I had one highlight that constantly and consistently made it a little better and, more than anything, easier to survive. My family.

Somehow, when the universe pushed me into an isolated corner, my family stood by me quite unconditionally, and that changed my perspective towards them. We’re all far from perfect, and our relationship isn’t a textbook one either, because we all find ourselves parenting each other unknowingly and subconsciously. There are days when Baba needs a little pep talk, or Maa needs help setting up her catering business, or when Jiya needs career counseling for the 100th time.

For me, this year they’ve played a pivotal role in supporting me, even through phases where I would push them away. I cannot be more grateful for their existence as people in my life, not just as my family, because we genuinely operate better as weird friends than a conventional family, haha.

I was quite anxious to share this post because “nazar na lage,” plus it’s also the most vulnerable part of not just the year 2025, but also my life in general. But I’m posting this anyway because I couldn’t not share the most valuable part of the last year before I begin another, with them.

Thank you @swati.thakkar.986 @dharmesh0017 @_musafir._.22 for being you. Love you 💛 by @jaythakkarmusic
