But fashion’s always been a personal love, and one I’ve beeen lucky to build a parallel career in. Until now, those two parts of my world didn’t really overlap in my content. But that’s changing!

A French woman yelled “Are you Jay?! I love your stuff!” while I was biking down Avenue Montaigne on my way to lunch after my last show of the season.

It was so sweet and made me think how a few years ago I flew myself out here to Paris trying to figure out how the hell to get into fashion. Kinda surreal. A reminder to just be cringe. I’ve been looking forward to this post all week 👀

This Fashion Week, I decided to do a little experiment. Partially as a way of forcing myself to strike up conversations with my seatmates, I asked each of them one question: What’s something about Fashion Week that people outside the industry wouldn’t know?

The answers would be anonymous, so it could be literally anything.

And the answers I got were amazing. Everything from full insider knowledge that even I didn’t know (i.e. the realities of department store buying) to the funny little things we’ve all somehow come to consider normal (i.e. being yelled at to “UNCROSS YOUR LEGS!”).

Is it a dream to do this job? 1000%. But we can acknowledge that while also admitting that the reality is a lot more complicated than what you see from the outside.
