highs & lows

2025 gave me my greatest heartache but also my greatest blessing. Even though I know my mom is with Jesus, I still wish she was here. But I’m blessed, because of the great times I had with friends and family. I’m blessed because God gave @nzinga92 and I the greatest gift in our daughter Shiloh. I’m even blessed to have spent the last few months of my mom’s life watching her still trust in God.

If you’ve made it this far, go through these pictures and videos laughing, smiling, and even crying with me. Thank God for 2025. Looking forward to 2026.

Somehow my heart is broken yet full at the same time. It’s broken simply because I miss the greatest mom in the world. Today would have been my mom’s 76th birthday. On one hand I wish she was here so we could be celebrating with her. But I’m so glad last year we got to go all out for her 75th.

But my heart is also full. I’m grateful to everyone that visited my mom whether she was home or in the hospital. Especially if you ever got her call saying “Come and see about me” and you actually showed up. I kinda knew the impact she had on so many people, but to see it the last few days from so many people has made the grief a little easier. I’m also so grateful for all the family and friends that came out this week to honor my mom’s legacy.

Grief is tricky. It hits at varying degrees at random times throughout life and there’s no real time line for it. So please, call, text, and most importantly pray for us. But also join us in celebrating Twila Payne’s birthday today. Even in the grief, choose today to remember how God uses my mom to impact your life.

Just like on Tuesday at my mom’s celebration of life service, I urge you and plead with you, to give your life to Christ. Simply because Jesus is the answer to everything happening in this broken world. My mom knew that. That is why when she breathed her last breath and closed her eyes here for a final time, she opened them to see God face to face and heard Him say “well done my good and faithful servant”. I know I’ll see my mom again because I’ve made the same decision. So choose Jesus today. Lastly, as my mom would say “Adelante! Go forward! Whatever God has purposed you to do, just do it”. by @jaytpayne
