You didn’t cause his addiction. You can’t control it. And you can’t recover for him.

Loving someone with an addiction can make you feel responsible for fixing things, protecting them, or finding the right words to make them change.

But his recovery has to be his.

You can love him. You can support him. You can set boundaries. And you can take care of yourself. by @jaywalkerlodge

Tonight, our community gathers for a cause that means so much to all of us. ❤️

Many of you have traveled from near and far to be here, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Year after year, your support helps make the A Way Out Charity Dinner and Serenity Scramble such a special weekend—all while supporting the incredible work of our local nonprofit partner, A Way Out.

A special shoutout to our friend Zac Clark, founder of Release Recovery and the Release Recovery Foundation, for joining us this evening as our guest speaker. We’re grateful to have Zac here to share his experience, his message, and his heart for recovery with our community.

This weekend is about more than golf. It’s about friendship, fellowship, recovery, community, and coming together to support something bigger than ourselves.

We look forward to another meaningful evening together.

See you tonight at 6:30 PM! by @jaywalkerlodge

There’s something about getting out of the lodge and into the mountains that creates a different kind of recovery experience.

Our September Buena Vista Camping Expedition brought clients and staff together for a few days of camping, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, golf, a 14er, hot springs, fireside conversations, and a whole lot of pizza.

But the activities are only part of it.

These expeditions are built around getting uncomfortable, trying something new, connecting with peers, and learning more about yourself along the way. From setting intentions in the morning to reflecting together at the end of the day, recovery doesn’t stop when we leave the lodge.

Sometimes it looks like standing on top of a mountain. Sometimes it looks like making dinner together around a campfire. And sometimes it’s simply sitting with your peers, having an honest conversation, and being willing to hear something you might not want to hear.

That’s the Jaywalker experience. Get outside. Get uncomfortable. Get connected. Keep moving forward. by @jaywalkerlodge

In this episode of Finding New Waters, B. Reeves sits down with Stefan Bate, partner and co-CEO of Jaywalker Lodge in Carbondale, Colorado, for a powerful conversation about addiction, surrender, treatment, community, and what long-term recovery actually looks like.

Stefan shares his own journey from being labeled a “chronic relapsor” and “treatment resistant alcoholic” after multiple treatment attempts to eventually finding lasting recovery at Jaywalker Lodge. He explains why he could get an “A in treatment” but still had no idea how to live in recovery — and why the four-month Jaywalker model gave him something traditional 28-day treatment had not: time to actually practice living sober in the real world.

The conversation explores one of Stefan’s strongest beliefs: “you get sober in treatment, but you find recovery in community.” Stefan explains why treatment alone is not enough, why consequence-based motivation eventually burns out, and why joy, relationships, purpose, connection, and a meaningful life are not side effects of recovery — “they are the medicine.”

Stefan also discusses surrender, hopelessness, why intelligent and successful people often try to outthink addiction, the pressure men feel to immediately rebuild their careers after treatment, and why slowing down can actually create a stronger foundation for lifelong recovery.

The episode closes with the newly launched Jaywalker Foundation and its mission to create greater access to extended recovery care for people who need programs like Jaywalker but do not have the financial resources to afford them.

Addiction doesn’t just take your time, your relationships, or your opportunities.

Sometimes, it takes your identity.

You stop recognizing yourself. The things you loved, the people you cared about, the person you wanted to become, all get pushed further and further away.

Recovery is more than getting sober. It’s finding your way back to yourself and discovering who you can become without addiction running your life. by @jaywalkerlodge

Sometimes recovery starts with something as simple as a hike.

What feels impossible at first can become a new challenge, a new hobby, and a reminder of what you’re capable of. With the right people beside you and a willingness to push yourself, sobriety can open the door to experiences you never imagined.

Recovery is about discovering a whole new way to live. by @jaywalkerlodge

Recovery can mean a return to normalcy for the whole family.

Rebuilding trust. Sharing meals. Having conversations without fear or tension. Being present for the moments that used to feel impossible.

Recovery doesn’t just change one life. It can help bring families back together. by @jaywalkerlodge

Recovery isn’t just about leaving an old life behind. It’s about discovering a new one.

New friendships. New connections. New people who challenge you, support you, and remind you that you don’t have to do life alone.

Sometimes, a brand new life begins with the relationships you build in recovery. by @jaywalkerlodge

What an incredible two days welcoming behavioral health professionals from across Colorado’s Front Range to Carbondale for the Jaywalker Professionals Experience.

Our goal with these experiences is simple: bring people closer to the work. Over the past two days, our guests had the opportunity to experience Jaywalker beyond the website and brochures, to meet our clinical team, spend time with our alumni, learn about our model of care and family services, explore the mountains together, and experience the community that surrounds our men in recovery.

We believe relationships matter. Community matters. And there is no substitute for experiencing Jaywalker firsthand.

A huge thank you to our guests from Stride Denver, Roots Family Healing, Recovery Nexus, South Platte Counseling, and Sylvan Psychiatry for making the trip and investing the time to truly get to know us.

One of our favorite sayings at Jaywalker is:

“The closer you get, the better it looks.”
