This school semester is going so fast. From being recognized in the district to having Cuco hosted at my school site through the help of friends (thanks @lolwhatsoul !!!) It was amazing to see kids witness someone who is like them in so many capacities answer their questions.
I can’t believe this year so far.
We went from two to three choral classes. 30 to 50 plus kids in the musical. Kids confidence growing more and more. Middle school was such a formative time for me and I can see it happening with my students now. I feel so grateful for all the support this year from friends, community, and especially @hottahaji.me 🫶🏽 Got a busy time happening this December so please send all the good energy! We are on the up and up here! 🚀✨

It feels full circle. The same camp that made me have values centered on community, passion, friendship, music, bravery, and vulnerability is being attended by two of my students.
@artsxpress was an opportunity presented to me by my middle school music teacher Ms. Green, who may rest in peace. I remember feeling all the emotions - loneliness, nervousness, fear, excitement, liberation, and joy. I was going to be in a place where I would be with other kids who love the arts as much as I do. And I would be going as the only Santa Ana kid on a scholarship. Through this experience I learned I can do anything and be anyone I wanted at any time. ❤️
I only hope my students feel what I felt - growth. Grow in being confident in themselves, independent thinkers, and loving the arts more and more.
Thank you to all the camps that gave me opportunities to be a kid or be a grown kid. Thank you to @artsxpress and Carl and Susan who make this camp a reality for so many kids and made the application process accessible. ❤️Camp has always been a place where I see a reality that we can all feel liberated joyfully through the power of the arts.🫶🏽 if you ever want to be part of working at a camp or know someone who can attend - I highly recommend these.
