HBCU Kings and Queens carry more than a title. They carry the culture, the history, and the pride of their entire campus every time they step onto the yard. That is why we at Watch The Yard are launching a new series dedicated to introducing you to the leaders wearing the crown this year, continuing with Barber-Scotia College.

Mister Barber-Scotia College Jakobie O’Bryan Abram is a senior Business Administration major with a concentration in Sports Management from Lumberton, North Carolina, and a student-athlete on the basketball court. Alongside him, Miss Barber-Scotia College Alana Kalis Stokes is a freshman Business Administration major with a concentration in Sports Management from Durham, North Carolina, who also plays volleyball for the Sabers. Together, Abram (@jayywitmoves ) and Stokes (@aksofineee ) represent Barber-Scotia with a shared commitment to service, school pride, and leadership.

Watch The Yard put out an open call to HBCU Kings and Queens across the country and we were able to interview Abram and Stokes about their reign.

I want to take a moment to say thank you to Barber-Scotia College for giving me a second chance and allowing me the opportunity to build my legacy.

I never would have imagined that a little boy from Lumberton, NC, who was always shy and afraid to speak, would one day be standing in front of people giving a speech as Mister Barber-Scotia College.

This experience has shown me how much I’ve grown. I’m grateful for every lesson, every opportunity, and every person who has helped me become the man I am today.

Thank you, Barber-Scotia, for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to serve. This is bigger than a title. It’s a part of my story, my growth, and my legacy.
