It’s world suicide prevention day today. I’m not gonna lie y’all, this month has been extremely difficult for me so far. Seeing suicide awareness prevention month every year simply being boiled down to “how to spot signs of suicide” and “check in on your friends” isn’t helpful, it can be traumatizing. It places the blame on the individuals that weren’t able to “save” people that do end up dying by suicide. In addition to checking on people, we need to have our attention on the fact that we are creating and perpetuating a world that people don’t want to live in. A world where people don’t have access to healthcare, a live-able wage, clean water, food, shelter, etc. How did we allow society to make our hearts so...cold? So cold that we are okay with allowing and even defending the idea that some people “don’t deserve” a home? “Don’t deserve” 3 meals a day? “Don’t deserve” healthcare? Why??? We are better than this. *Free housing is suicide prevention. *Free healthcare is suicide prevention. Food security is suicide prevention. Destigmatizing mental illness is suicide prevention. *Gender affirming healthcare is suicide prevention. Social justice is suicide prevention. *Abolishing the police is suicide prevention. *Speaking out against gen0cide is suicide prevention. We deserve a world that people want to live in, and it’s up to us to create it. To all those other people out there feeling tired, lonely, scared, angry, sad, like no ones listening...I love you more than words can say, and I’m so sorry this fucked up world is failing us all right now. I can’t say that you’ll never feel this way again, but I can say that there are people cheering you on. every. single. day. There are people out there fighting for a better tomorrow. Fighting to create a world we all want to live in. Damn, I love y’all. I really really love y’all. by @jazhasfreckles

How are you tending to yourselves in this summer heat? This Saturday morning, we’re inviting you to gather in community and soften into practices that cool and soothe - offering care to overheated bodies, racing thoughts and burning emotions. In this season, the fire element is strong. Pitta energy can heighten feelings like anger, rage, urgency, control and self criticism. With everything unfolding in the world, many of us may already feel close to the edge of that intensity. Personally - I do. And we don’t want to extinguish this fire. Pitta is also what fuels our passion, our clarity, our courage and our deep sense of justice. It’s what moves us toward action and collective liberation. But when that fire burns too intensely, it can consume us leaving us depleted, reactive and overwhelmed. Our practices this summer season are an invitation to tend the fire, not suppress it. To cultivate steadiness, clarity and spaciousness so that our energy can be directed toward sustainable, grounded action.Join us this Saturday as we explore cooling, supportive practices together as ways to regulate, reconnect and nourish ourselves so we can continue showing up for ourselves and each other.🌿 Donation based 🔆 Sign up link in bio#yoga #barcelona #decolonise #liberation by @jazhasfreckles

When I was able to come back home and visit after almost 6 years abroad, I decided to work on a little project with my mama! Inspired by another project done by one of my closest friends and confidants, my peach, my sugar plum, my honey bun @bimbo_n_limbo thank you for so openly sharing a part of yourself and leaving the door open to inspire me and others to do something similar. 💌This mini photo project outlines the places I felt had a huge impact on not only my growth as a human, but with the relationship I had with my dearly departed father. Coming back to these places was not easy by any means, but there was an innate feeling of nostalgia and healing that accompanied me while revisiting and reliving each of these places and moments I had with my family. This project aims to intertwine both past and present versions of me; and those who get it, get it. 🫂❤️‍🩹Thank you to my beautiful mother who was able to put on a brave face and feel the trauma fully with me while taking these photos; thank you to all the people that choose to see and treasure not only me, but this world in all its splendor, and again, thank you to my beautiful chickadee Mya, there is no one like you out there. I will cherish you in every life. 🍑✨tags: south asian poetry, anti capitalist poetry, losing a parent, childhood nostalgia the dress that once swallowed me whole at seven years old now fits me like a glove. i never used to like it, i always thought it was too plain, too traditional, nothing like the ones id seen and admired in the bollywood movies. these days, i think about how much spirit that dress holds. how many of my mountain people still live and breathe the traditions i worked so hard to paint over at such a young age. i genuinely believe and would die on the hill that this “modernist,” capitalistic approach to life and living stole my fathers soul. i watched the light slowly leave his eyes with each passing day that he was in that apartment behind me, the apartment he welcomed so many families into as they worked to stabilize themselves; the same ones who adopted western individualism and turned their back on him after they were able to achieve that stability. he by @jazhasfreckles

ESP en los comentarios: friday night i had the honor of reading a poem written by a sixteen year old named Gabriel from my home state of North Carolina; titled “Society’s Knock.” by the end, there was not a dry eye in the house; not a single person in the crowd who wasn’t moved by this young man’s words. 🥺 HUGE shoutout to his teacher and dear friend of mine @rrretsof_l who sent me Gabriel’s work and just KNEW it was deserving of a platform. thank you for being the light that so many young people need in this world. you truly are one of a kind. 💟i kindly ask each and every one of you to take the time to really hear and sit with this piece completely; and i encourage everyone who feels so inclined to leave comments on his work. all of them will be relayed back to the Gabe, who could genuinely use them at this moment. ❤️‍🩹 thank you Gabriel, for permission to read this piece aloud. mic drop (literally) 🎤 may this serve as a reminder to us to keep fighting. keep speaking up. keep ACTING when and wherever we can. keep tearing at the foundations of this system until it crumbles once and for all. we can and will create something better after. ❤️‍🔥⛓️‍💥for those out there feeling the weight of the world, take pride and find solace in the fact that there are people out there fighting to make this better world a possibility. for you, for us, for all those to come after. hang in there. 🫂 big thank you to @thatgirlrizzzy for recording this very special moment 🎥 #iceout #fuckice #nooneisillegal #spokenword #poetry by @jazhasfreckles
