One year ago today, the world lost one of the most beautiful, graceful, thoughtful, elegant, witty humans to have walked the earth: my beloved mother in law, Linda.

Linda was the best example of what it means to be a loving mother, and was loved ferociously by anyone lucky enough to be in her life. Her whip-fast wit always kept us in stitches, and her thoughtful beyond compare care parcels always came with tiny notes saying BEWARE THE HUG! HERE COMES ANOTHER HUGE HUG! I think of her whenever I see shells upon the beach, or hydrangeas in a garden, or when Billy Bob selects his “hhhhoctupus” toy from the toy box to play with. I think of her with love, longing and the best of memories set to a 60’s pirate radio soundtrack.

Surviving the last year has been incredibly difficult to say the least. My dear family has suffered a loss so great I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. What has come from this loss, is a resounding reminder of what is most important in life, and to treasure every moment with the ones we love.

It is wild to think that a year and a half ago, I had just packed it in on a long, successful career in events and decided to go all in on a career in dog grooming. Little did I know that this vocational transition would become more than a mere livelihood- but a calling; a coming home. A true craft, a passion to end all passions, and a dream realised.

On the 23rd of May of this year I competed in WestGroom and came home with a great big purple ribbon, having met some incredible people and made many new friends. I placed 2nd in the Novice Salon Freestyle category in my first ever grooming competition - still pinching myself. CONGRATS also to @ciara___may and @coatcare_bytoni! And everyone who competed over the wknd.

I want to say a big thank you to every one who believed in me from the start - to my beautiful husband, with whom I’ve weathered the worst of tragedies this past year - I am so grateful for your love and support every day. My dear friends at Anglicare WA - you gave me the strength I needed to take this next step in my journey! You know who you are. And my dear friends and family - it is my deepest regret that I haven’t been as present as I would have liked this past year - it’s been a lot. I love you so much and good times are ahead.

Thank you to @doggroomersassociationofwa for putting on this amazing event! And to the amazing judges @kirsty_hunt_groominguk (I wanna come visit you and your poodle babies one day! PLEASE) and @wendy_j_wouters (ma’am you have started me on an oxknit obsession!) - thank you from the bottom of my heart. And @pupparazzijess - I ADORE YOU. Can’t wait til I head to the states one day and fangirl all over you again. Bailey and Patti say hi!

fosters: 2024 🐾

👑princess - angel baby girl, will live forever etched in our minds and hearts as the girl who overcame every possible fear over months of progress - who couldn’t stop crying and wouldn’t eat for days from a broken heart from losing her previous guardian and in tragic circumstances. our girl eventually got her fairytale ending with a great home, reunited with her fur brother ✨

🥛bailey - little man was a happy chappy despite his myriad surgeries! though he was only with us for a short time, another happy ending for this happy bundle of madness 🫶🏽

🏛️apollo - this absolute rockstar doggo ended up with his actual human soulmate. this fur kid is a literal angel. there are some fosters that are wicked hard to give up, but even though this boyo was up there, this one went to THE best home. ✨Paris: Day Two✨

📍pain au chocolat (sans beurre et lait!) pour le petit déjeuner
📍Local flea markets in Montmarte, nice rainy stroll through the 18th arrondissement
📍Brunch and people watching at Café des Deux Moulins: fans of the cutest movie in the world (Amélie) will recognise this as the characters’ workplace - such a gorgeous spot.
📍Getting lost, amazed, amused, and slightly overwhelmed at Marché aux Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen
📍360° view of Paris and its iconic landmarks from the Galeries Lafayette Rooftop
📍Saw heaps of good doggos in various fancy indoor places, take notes Australia PLEASE
📍Stroll along Pont Neuf and staring at the Seine
📍Watching the sun set over the Louvre, absolutely awestruck by the magnificence of this cultural titan of world significance.
📍Most insanely enjoyable seafood dinner and wine at Les Enfants Du Marché smack bang in the middle of the market - it was ridiculously good. Perfect last evening in Paris. by @jazmaebee

#️⃣1️⃣ the return of miss sooty the chiweenie // now suki
after little miss sassy’s first adoption didn’t work out, she came back to us and eventually ended up on all four paws in the pawfect home with a lovely former colleague - happy days 🥰

#️⃣2️⃣ sweet angel sascha the scroofy jack russell 🫶🏽
sashy baby was a casualty of the rental crisis at 7 years of age. A chance pop in to @theflaminggalahfreo after attending @wilbur_the_japoodle bday pawty turned out to be the most amazing twist of fate and sash met her new mama in the beer garden which was SO cute 🏳️‍🌈

#️⃣3️⃣ darling brave cancer survivor boy sam 💪🏽
mister sammy sam sams - oh how I love this boy. his owner had passed away and the rest of the family couldn’t keep him because - again - the shitshow that is perth’s rental crisis. during his first week with us, i discovered a lump on his arm which turned out to be a malignant tumour. luckily it hadn’t spread so mister mans got to keep his arm and live happily ever after with his new fam in the hills

#️⃣4️⃣ our little eugene (formerly teddy!)
i’ve never met a puppy with such an old soul! eugy boy came to us after his owner was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer and had to move overseas for treatment and to be with family. this boy is a truly special, unique little soul. all 5 broomies are over the moon that eugene has found his forever home with his beloved mum, our darling dear friend @mimkempson . seeing their bond deepen and keeping this particular foster pup in our lives is the biggest blessing - of of the biggest this year has brought.

i know i bang on about it all the time but fostering animals in need is truly life changing and incredibly fulfilling. there hasn’t been a single foster experience that we’ve regretted - we have both learnt so much about love and life from these beautiful babies- and received so much love and joy in return. there’s never been a more important time to foster an animal in need. so; if you’re able to make space for a soul that needs a helping paw in 2024, i couldn’t recommend doing so any more. live, laugh, lick 🫶🏽 taken in Fremantle, Western Australia by @jazmaebee
