POV: your dance teacher gets the call to judge a pageant 👑

I had the honor of sitting on the judges’ panel for the Miss Houston County High School Pageant. I was invited because of my background in dance and the performing arts, and it was one of the most fun ways I’ve ever gotten to give back to this community 🖤🩵💛

From the judges’ table, I watched for the same things we build in our studio every single week: stage presence, confidence, poise and the courage to perform with your whole heart. Every contestant brought it.

STOP letting your dancer skip these 3 stretches 👇

DANCE TIP WEDNESDAY | Coach @jazmariepowers top 3 stretches every dancer should do BEFORE class:

1️⃣ Hip flexor lunge into splits & straddle. Hold 30 sec on each side.
2️⃣ Back opener with head release. They release tightness in the spine and open up the chest for maximum expansion.
3️⃣ Shoulder extension with leg release. It opens the shoulder blades so the upper body can move freely.

These aren’t just warm-ups. They help prevent injuries. Save this, because your dancer will want to be warmed up and ready for TOMORROW 👇

“What age should my kid start dance?”

We get asked this ALL the time — so here’s the real answer:

As soon as they can walk, they can start building confidence, rhythm, coordination, and a love for movement.

Ages 4–7, dancers begin taking class on their own and learning the foundations of ballet, tap, jazz, and acro. And from there? We grow right alongside them — all the way through adult classes.

It’s never too early to start, and it’s never too late either.

Whatever age your dancer is, we’ve got a class for them. Come see us — we’d love to have you!

📸 First day of school pics from my big boys!

📕Story Time: Yesterday was a rough day for The Powers clan. We had a fantastic morning and everyone was excited for school. Once we got to the building Alden realized that Kyler was going a different direction, and the tears began! He cried and cried and cried, so much so that we were asked to come pick him up early! 😭😮‍💨 My momma heart was so hurt, so then I cried, prayed, and cried some more! 💔 I couldn’t understand why the transition was so tough for Alden… he’s super smart and full of joy!

🤔Realization Time: Montel and I talked it through the whole day, prayed, and reasoned together. He reminded me that our children are so different and I have to be settled in that fact. Kyler has my personality and Alden has his father’s, and I have to be okay with Alden doing things in his own timing. I knew it, but I need the constant reminder.

🙌🏾Testimony Time: We approached our entire day differently and Alden had a WONDERFUL re-do of his first day of school! He found his stride and joy throughout the day! And he was so proud of himself, as were all his teachers and classroom helpers. They all rushed to the car to tell us about his wonderful day!🥹 Thank you to @thewestfieldschool faculty who walked with my baby (I mean big boy) through a very rough day! It’s going to be a GREAT YEAR! 🐝💚

Meet & Greet Tonight! 🐝 Can’t believe Alden is going to Pre-K! He did so well and didn’t want to leave…so that’s a good sign! 🥹😮‍💨 And he has the same teachers that Kyler did for Pre-K!❤️ Kyler is headed to 1st grade… he led the way for his brother and ran into some good friends! Last night we extended the call for salvation and there was one hand that went up in the building… One of the GREATEST JOYS OF MY LIFE was to have the opportunity to lead MY SON(Kyler 6 years old) to Christ last night…
