Heart very heavy in these daze&times. Forever grateful for our ancestor Assata. 🤎💫 Her Affirmation poem is a mantra for me, and a reminder that new life and liberation is always possible.

“I believe in living. I believe in birth. I believe in the sweat of love and I’m the fire of truth. And i believe that a lost ship, steered by tired, seasick sailors, can still be guided home to port.”

(And shoutout to @nonamereads for this album and always doing the good work of bringing the power of literacy and language to our communities. 🫶🏾) by @jazzijayog

America, at its old age, deserves a poetic reckoning. The soil bleeds with a need for us to be honest. This is a snippet from my performance of my poem, “America, A New Dimension,” for the Youth250 Our Declaration event.

“We the People, have grown fatigued

of the iniquities, the machine of grief and greed

and all the obscenities

flooding
this bloodstream of the American Dream.

A system of severance has never been

a genuine vision, of Land Home or Free.

But can we amend the skeletons,

change the marrow of this country?”

“As a nation hastens to face a rampage, behaving oh-so dastardly. Where can we find revival? Show me. What will be our alchemy.”

During times like these, we’re asking ourselves what does it mean to be part of this country. To be in America, still dreaming of truly being Free. Throughout history we’ve seen the ways that liberation is attained, Rage & Love, Memories, Movement, & Refusing The Ruthless. What an honor it was to be a part of such a powerful moment in time, one where we wrote Our Declaration for the 250th — calling into the future for stewardship, for care, and for truth. So grateful to have graced the stage at @constitutionctr with so many incredible visionaries, leaders, and futurists. Forever thankful for @historymadebyus for the invitation and encouragement.

Philly was beautiful.

When in doubt, write it out.

These are dark, dark, dark, dark dark times. Yet I *still* believe in LIVING! Like Assata said. Though it’s hard to remain hopeful, I remember that I am living proof of the possibility of freedom and survival — my ancestors made me possible. In the midst of experiencing an apocalypse. That same power is electrified in my own veins. Liberation is a cosmic thang, can’t be contained. 🔮

This past year, and the beginning of this one, holds challenges and grief in ways unfathomable. However, we ‘alarming the death-singers’ all 2026 and beyond, word to Ms. Sonia Sanchez. From home-turf USA, to Congo, to Sudan, to Palestine, to Haiti, to Uganda — worldwide.

Defiantly Hopeful. Anointedly outRaged. Radically Tender. 🫀⚡️💌

Happy Black History Month!

Been writing poems and songs since I was 5. At 11, I won my first award for something I’d written. At 17, I read my poetry for the first time in front of a live national audience. At 23 (this past week) I taught my first in-person workshop to local middle and high school students.

Having the opportunity to begin and end my year supporting young poets as they discover their paths within this language-of-life has been such a blessing. Witnessing their performances, reading with them, creating a space for them to talk about the things they carry forward and what they’ve left behind as they recreate themselves again and again — it’s all so incredible. They are all stars. My students have been stellaaarrr! 💫

I was able to put them on to the words and legacies of Assata Shakur, Amiri Baraka, Audre Lorde, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Ayling Dominguez. We talked about memory and imagination. Emotions and embodiment.

And there was a person there who I spoke with that trusted me enough to hold their histories, a little Black girl who saw herself in me.

Art is ever-present, and I’m ever-so-grateful.

They told me I “ate,” and I am now full. 😂 The kids gon’ be alright y’all. 🥹❤️‍🔥

In honor of Spooky Season, guess who’s curating a curriculum and list of readings for Black Horror? 👀 🎃

Enter Horror Noire! A study of Black Horror, Darkness, & Shadows of Surrealism. Exploring the haunting of Black Art and experience.

[This week, l’m reading “Blood is Another Word for Huger,” re-reading Beloved, close-reading a couple of songs, and watching Tales From The Hood.]

It’s already getting crazy-scary out here, so why not learn from the best on how to endure the terrors of what we call “real life”? 🖤👻

Hey y’all! I know it’s been a minute since I’ve given an update. Life has been a whirlwind. Much gratitude for you all in the TALMBAT Community for your patience and presence. 🤎

I wanted to share some of the media and art that have been an emblem of inspiration throughout crafting this project. I’ve been researching and curating pieces and movements that align with “Imagination & Education as Pathways to Liberation” for over two years now — so I might just make a part 2 soon.

Check out the extended list via the TALMBAT Newsletter (and subscribe to be the first to know about the exciting announcements coming in November)! Link in bio.

Poetry for the Apocalypse. 2025.

It’s so earth-shattering to see all of the brutal unveilings of this world, and the ways people all too often confuse power with abuse and colonialism. Witnessing the rapid rise of famine and violence in Gaza, Sudan, Congo, and Haiti. Watching the “people-in-power” proudly pose as jesters and extortionists. All spaces of learning and literacy being attacked in some way, shape, or form. It’s a marrow-deep sitting sort of tired.

Times like these make me remember shared moments of words, rhythm, and memory. This poem was written by the amazingly talented attendees of the Poetry as a Liberation Technology Workshop. After listening to poetry of Mosab Abu Toha, Assata Shakur, and June Jordan (among many others), we wrote together. The prompt focused on defining the Apocalypse (which origins of the word means
“to reveal”) and what we were claiming with fierce love, desire, and liberation.
So grateful for them. They’re such stars! 💫☄️

P.S. Remember to write down what’s happening around and beyond you, they’ll try to make you forget.
