Carley and I recently had to make one of the most painful decisions of our lives: saying goodbye to our sweet Ivy.

This summer, before our trip to Wisconsin, Ivy began showing signs that something wasn’t right. She wasn’t eating, had very little energy, and simply wasn’t herself. When we returned home, her condition had visibly worsened, so I took her to the vet. After X-rays and an ultrasound, we received the heartbreaking news that she had liver cancer and that it had spread to her stomach.

We were then faced with an impossible decision no one is ever prepared to make. We didn’t want her to continue suffering, so we chose to let her go peacefully, surrounded by love. Putting Ivy to rest was one of the hardest things I have ever experienced.

I first met Ivy in early 2020 when Carley and I began our relationship. What was supposed to be a temporary visit, COVID turned into a cross-country road trip for Carley and Ivy, and ultimately something much longer. From the very beginning, Ivy quickly became my best friend. For nine wonderful years, she was our loyal companion—protective, energetic, affectionate, and always ready to share her love with our family and friends.

I miss her more than I know how to put into words. I miss simply having her in the room. I miss her presence, her energy, and the comfort of knowing she was nearby. The house feels different now. Sometimes it still feels like I should look over and see her there, and then the reality of losing her hits me all over again.

Her ashes will be spread at a memorial in Napa Valley—a beautiful place where we hope she finds her way into heaven and remains forever at peace.

Ivy wasn’t just our dog. She was family, our bestie, and a huge part of our life. I would give anything for more time with her. I hope she knew how deeply she was loved, and I hope that, wherever she is, she knows how deeply she is missed.

Run, Ivy, run. You gave Carley nine amazing years, and I am so lucky to have shared six of those beautiful years with you. Thank you for loving us so completely. A part of our hearts went with you, and we will carry you with us forever. 🤍 by @jazzycoldcuts
