Today I’ve started working on my Forest Mancala game again.
The thing I’ve been most procrastinating is to re-write the rules. There’s a lot of little minor changes and ready my previous notes hasn’t been easy!!! 😂
Now, I’m almost done with the re-write and it only took alllllll day. I look forward to playtesting this version once all that is finished.
I’m truly so delighted to have got the ball rolling again, it’s always a lovely feeling to get back in to things 🙏🏽😊
For my new friends/followers, this is one of a few games I’m designing. Here is a list of games I’m designing that are in some kind of playable state:

A few days back I had some family and friends over. They requested to see the games I’m designing, so I did something I’ve wanted to do for ages… document all the games I’m designing at whatever stage they are at.
This post is mostly for me as I also use my Instagram as a diary to remind myself how far I’ve come but if you enjoy it, then please read on and thank you for your support 🙏🏽 🩷
The 1st pic shows all my games on the table. The slides will be show casing the games from left to right on the table, starting with my co designed game with @lookingglassws - Dreidel Dilemma.
Aside from Dreidel Dilemma, my fully playable games are: Abstraktris, PushPush, Forest Mancala, Kwinub, Origami and *Artearoa.
*Artearoa has been in a bizarre state for some time. I’ve hardly worked on it but mostly because a few years ago I got in a mood and cut up the game board, so now it’s playable with bits and bobs laid out but that does my mind in. I look forward to feeling inspired to get Artearoa back up to a consistent style with a new game board and maybe redesigned player boards.
Kwinub is a game I’ve not spoke about much on here but it doesn’t mean it’s not extremely dear to my heart!!! It’s actually the 1st game I started designing. I do hope to work on it more but I basically want to create a back story and then matching mechanics to better fit the world I envision that Kwinub is.
I had a bit of a cry setting Kwinub back up, happy tears, to see what this game has done for me already. The friends I’ve made, the creativity it’s unleashed in me and the hope that even with chronic pain I’m slowly doing something with my life 🙏🏽🥰
Aside from these main ones, I have several in clear envelopes and the boxes such as Freeboard, Mondrian and so on that are ideas and maybe somewhat playable or not at all.

It’s been a while, so here’s an update on the game Sharyn and I are co-designing. The game is 100% playable as is, there’s just physical things to be completed such as the card backs, a new board that fits the slightly larger market stalls and has marked space for the bonus tokens and so on.
This week I’ve just been slowly illustrating more of the cards, making these new buttier player screens and re-writing the rules. Sharyn is now typing out the rules and then I’ll be doing a reference card.
I’m feeling prepared for official play testing to begin!!! This week, I’m off to a game designers retreat and I look forward to getting feedback 🙏🏽😊 Folloeing this, I’ll be working on a scaled back version for my friends who are wanting to Playtest it. So it will be one giant print and play 😂😂😂 Although I guess things like the hands, you could just use meeples and then post it notes to depict the 3 sizes.
It’s really starting to come together now 😊
I’ve included a little video showing how the magnetic tiles work on the canvas. I spent a long time designing and re-doing this as reliability is so important to me! 😊
I know most Playtest games are not this detailed per say but I actually need it like this to visualize things 😊
We have a working title “Artearoa” and hoping we have no issues as an online art shop has trademarked that name. Fingers crossed as it’s just perfect for the game 🙏🏽
For my followers who have been with me quite some time, this game did used to be Los Senderos. We decided to switch the theme and name so that more focus is on the art element of it.

So, this is 47 today, so games I shall play and then hopefully I’ll not feel quite so old and grey 😂🥰
On the table so far has been:
Carnuta - my fav game of 2026 so far. A light card game where you are playing cards by spending and or flipping runes to get sets. It’s streamlined, I could teach it in a minute and it feels beautiful. I was today years old when I figured out you can have either the back or front of box in the box insert 😂
Next up is my absolute favourite game, Cartographers. You flip cards and draw in polyomino shapes as different terrain types trying to match goals for the game. It’s always a different adventure mapping out your village 🥰
Next up is Cascadia, this is such a beautiful tile laying puzzly game and I think an essential in a collection if you like nature games. I also love that a version of it got in to the McDonalds happy meal in the states, that’s so freaking cool!!!
Next up is Castle Combo. In Castle Combo you are building a Castle and or village in a 3x3 grid. Each card you add has instant benefits if you have the criteria and end game scoring. Again, it’s such a nice little puzzle and sentimental as one of my groups of insta friends here taught me it 🩷
Finally, we have a game I’m designing, Abstraktris. Unless you are new to my page you’ve probably seen bits and bobs. Currently I’m playing around with the art and soon that’s going to be more or less locked in. Am also testing the rules and a solo campaign, it’s been so fun and a nice challenge.
I can’t wait to hold a published copy in my hands and my heart beats thinking that if I keep up as I am, that will be next year!!! 🥰
So far, I’m just having such a lovely chill day. My wife has spoilt me with how she decorated our home, a delicious brekkie, lovely gifts and playing several games with me.
I am so glad that at this age I’ve found my passion and am working towards overall health, as eating well and keeping active are as important as keeping the mind sharp through gaming, crosswords and such 🥰 I love this hobby for keeping my mind good in a way that is fun to me!

On the table today is Dad in Chad, design and art by Stephanie. @dadinchadgame
Dad in Chad is 2-4 player game set across 54 African countries. In the game the aim is to have at least 3 adventures whilst getting dad from South Africa to Chad.
Along the way you’ll learn about many African countries by shape association with fun ways of remembering them. You can see a few examples on my post. During the adventures you’ll experience Africa through culture, arts, tech, sports, wild life and nature.
The game is a roll and move and you are collecting matching pairs of countries with adventures that include that country.
Once you have 3 plus matching pairs then you need to have modes of transport to connect each which can be car, boat or plane.
I had a lot of fun seeing the different countries and realizing how much I need to learn about African geography! There are a few countries I’d never even heard of before as well.
This game would be perfect for adults and or kids 12 up to learn through play/repetition. The game play is a nice length and it’s very fun to put together an adventure and share each others journeys at the end.
I always have the utmost respect for designers who do art in the game themselves and Stephanie’s art is delightful and such a fun way to learn through play.
Playing this just makes me want to visit more places in Africa, I’ve actually only been to Egypt.
I look forward to playing this more and that this is the start of a series of games around the world. What country or continent do you hope is next?

On the table today is Tenby.
I’d seen this first on @pink_meeple ‘s account and since then several others. So I picked this one up.
Tenby is a light card game. Each player is basically putting together their own Tenby by respecting what cards can go beside each other. Each card has its own score or scoring condition and there are people who come with their own scoring preferences that are private ( or public if you like ) goals.
I like the cute art and the fact that you are looking for certain things within the set like say seagulls or lobster pots.
In the solo the opposition has cards that determine its order against you and what cards it drafts.
I think I’ll be getting this to the table a bit more, have you tried Tenby or even been to the real town?

On the table today: Abstraktris ( prototype ).
Today has been rough weather again but Sharyn and I found a patch of sun to get some property work done ☺️
I tend to go hard out once I begin something in ASHD fashion .. all in or not a thing at all… 😂 So I ended up completing my forest track I’ve been working on which is exciting as now I can start to make it prettier and more of a creative experience.
After that, the weather turned poor again so I decided to do some solo gaming and Abstraktris was just what I felt like 🥰
I’m testing the solo campaign and am doing pretty average at it, which means it’s going well… it shouldn’t be too easy, so yay!
After several tests in a row my brain has decided to go to sleep, so I’ll leave it at 😂

Here in Warkworth, it’s been non stop rain, the plus side is that means it’s #boardgameweather 🌧️ 🎲 🤍
First up, Sharyn and I played Cozy Stickerville ( slight spoiler 😉) Level 8, only 2 to go. We are close to achieving about 75% of the goals. That sounds alright for a town with 2 giant cakes almost as big as the bakery itself 😂
After that, Sharyn has been enjoying noting down all her crime books and I’ve been playing a string of light solo games as follows:
Criss Cross, Dizzle, Medici, Riverside, Kluster Duo, Fliptoons, Fliptoons S2 ( hidden in background if pic, forgot to photograph ) and finishing off with a few cases in the Murdoku book 🩷

On the table today was Popcorn by Victor Saumont and Art by Émilien Rotival.
Admittedly, I was efficient and put it away before photographing it!… this doesn’t happen often but it does happen 😂
Popcorn is a 2-4 player game where you are running your own cinema complex that you are constantly upgrading/modifying. The aim of the game is to get the most points which are represented as Popcorn, a nice little tie in to its title!!!
Over the course of the game you can add different seat combinations to any of your 3 theatre slots, this is inportant because the pawns you draft each round sometimes have preferences. If you match them to a seat colour you get to take bonus moves and I love me some extra moves!!!
I thought I was doing well but actually Sharyn took out the win with 3 more popcorn than me.
I really liked the first play but I think it’s one of those games you need to try a few times. Given that it has no solo mode, it is a bit harder to get back to the table. For my new friends here, my wife kindly plays most games once with me and then often not again. We live rural and as yet there is not a big boardgaming community here, however, I am working on that! ☺️ So yeah, it’s very hard for me to play 2 plus player games.
I do look forward to playing this again and luckily, it is available on @boardgamearena to play. If anyone is keen for a game, I’m happy to play and teach if need be 👋🏾
I think the game is fun and ties in to the theme nicely, have you tried this or are interested in giving it a go? I’m curious also if there are any other good movie themed games?

Happy 15th birthday Muffin @lilbabyhyena 🥰
What luck we had with the sunshine out on a winters day, maybe it’s because you are our sunshine and to so many who have met you over the years 🩷
Today, we took Muffin on a little adventure to my wife’s favourite place, which we all love too… Whangateau.

Chilling with my fav game, Cartographers 🥰
Sometimes when I play this solo I just like to take my time doodling away. I love how varied the game feels every time I play! For the majority of my plays, I just use the base game. That’s not to say I don’t love all the expansions. If you are a Cartographers fan I do suggest all of them 🩷
