Grateful for a strong showing from @nynurses at CB12s May General Meeting. I stand with you and strongly condemn New York-Presbyterian's plan to layoff 2% of its workforce, including 70 NYSNA nurses across the system.

The decision comes in the wake of a $750M settlement of sexual abuse claims from patients of a former gynecologist.

Our hard working nurses, the backbone of our healthcare system, should not be made to suffer as a consequence of another person's bad choices.

I look forward to working with our nurses and the CB12 health and environment committee on a path forward. by @jb.cb12

Putting out a prayer for Fort Washington Collegiate Church. Unfortunately, church leadership has recently undertaken the decision to close this beautiful building and wonderful asset to our community due to financial considerations.

The loss of the church would be a tremendous loss to Washington Heights. Please join me in signing the petition at the link my bio to keep the church open for the benefit of all in Washington Heights. by @jb.cb12

Last Wednesday I introduced a resolution to our public safety committee which supports several pieces of legislation at the local, state, and federal level which would improve safety from lithium ion battery fires and directs the appropriate elected officials to act to pass each component.

The resolution was passed unanimously by the committee and now needs to be passed by the full board in our regular March meeting.

The legislation this resolution supports includes:

LOCAL:
Int 0020-2024 - Which would require the delivery worker bicycle safety course developed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to cover the safe and lawful operation of powered bicycles, as well as lithium-ion battery and charging safety

Int 0487-2024 - Which would create penalties for the possession of $0 for the first offense and $1,000 for subsequent violations and the sale or assembly of unsafe Li-ion batteries a fine of up to $1,000 and a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1-year imprisonment

STATE:
NYS Assembly Bill A5310 and Senate Bill S157 - both of which would ban the sale of second-use lithium ion batteries, which have outlived their useful life.

FEDERAL:
H.R. 1797 - Cosposored by @repespaillat, this bill requires the Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue a consumer product safety standard for rechargeable Li-ion batteries. by @jb.cb12
