This book is full of kindness, friendship, and healing. I'm excited to see it out in the world and in little hands.

Thanks to my editor Janine O'Malley, art director Mina Chung, and the team at @fsgyoungreaders. It was such a joy to work with you.

And thanks to the author @ellielaks for giving me a tour of The Gentle Barn early on in this project. I'll share some of the photos I took there soon!

Visit @thegentlebarn to see all the good things they are up to. There's a link in my bio to their website if you want to learn more about the book and support their mission. by @jbellstudio

On the next “Conversations From The Barn” podcast, we talk with author and illustrator Jennifer A. Bell @jbellstudio and illustrator Kayla Harren @kaylaharren

Both visual artists, Kayla and Jen applied to spend their retreat week at Everwood together. While they don’t often get to collaborate in their professional lives, they are frequently inspired by one another’s practice. We talk about the importance of playfulness in making art — especially playing alongside other artists.

Want to know more about how to make a podcast? Ours is produced by @juliecensullo who will be leading a workshop at Everwood on Sept 26. Follow the link in our bio for the details.

Scenes from an incredible retreat @everwood_farmstead.

I spent the week wandering trails, gathering plants in the prairie, petting goats, and making a ton of art in a beautiful barn with my friend and fellow illustrator @kaylaharren.

I sketched a lot of chairs, landscapes, and flowers. I made prints from the plants I collected. I even tried my hand at stopmotion animation. Having the time to play and explore is such a gift.

Thank you Bill and Chris for having me back and sharing your magical space. by @jbellstudio
