The foods of Syros

1. Began our stay with a much needed snack after 30 hours of travel. Enjoyed grab a sharp local cheese and which was milder goat cheese.Xinomizithra is a soft, fresh cheese, usually made from sheep’s or goat’s milk (or both).(pictured) with honey and sesame seeds. Would not recommend the orange wine that was described as having a resin taste. I like orange wine but not this varietal. When you think resin think Pine Sol I will say no more.
2. Enjoyed the first gyro of the trip at a wonderful restaurant Ta Giannena Τα Γιάννενα. Pictured Greek salad, gyro and chicken souvlaki
3. The next day we were off to Epta - Syros Island-a great little coffee bar owned by a lovely young couple that we met in Anos Syros later in the day
4. After our 2 long hikes we settled in for a late snack at To Tsipouradiko tis Mirsinis for fried squid, eggplant spread and fava spread. Love the fact that restaurants here bring you ice cream with your check
5. We hiked up to Anos Syros and had the top 2 culinary experiences of our time spent on Syros ; Theosis Bar and Hygge Ano Syros. The wait staff at the bar were so friendly and shared some local knowledge that was valuable to the rest of the trip. No Michelin star yet but I am confident it is coming soon. Eggplant spread with miso, beet root salad, Lamb Shoulder, fish (grouper) tacos with green apple taco wrap
6. The lunch after our Kampos hike was charming in this remote Taverna in St. Michaels up on the north coast To Plakostroto. Best French fries and a spicy chickpea dish. The barley seed salad and tzatziki were light and what we needed .
7. Our last meal was uneventful but Tbies said the smash burger was worth mentioning

Last night had one of the best meals ever @thegrandtavern in Bradley Beach. The little gems salad and angliotti were delicious. The braised veal dish with the most scrumptious mushroom stuffing was enjoyed by @tomymarlin. Can’t say I didn’t enjoy a bite or two. My pan seared halibut perfectly cooked and the leek sauce underneath was a great accompaniment. Did we need the strawberry shortcake ? Probably not but it was yummy. Highly recommend @thegrandtavern by @jbies63

We say goodbye to the beautiful Algarve region of Portugal 🇵🇹 .
1. We enjoyed hiking the Seven Hanging Valleys each morning. The afternoon we hiked into the beach for a libation
2.the food was amazing. We enjoyed the famous Catalan . We ordered the monkfish and enjoyed every last bite
3. Is the food summary. Won’t give you the details but know it was all enjoyable.

The second day in the Douro continued the fun and exploration.
1+2 The day started with a nice hike along the Pinhao river
3-4 then it was off to Peso de Regua for lunch @vistadodouro before another great wine tasting . Pic 4. Is of the famous Francincina sandwich which became famous from a French man who wanted to make a riff on the Croque Monsieur. Quite decadent!
5-10. @quintadetourais A wonderful private tour where we were taken great care of! 5 wines and a special treat to try Fernando’s private reserve and a 30 year Port taken in Peso Da Régua - Douro by @jbies63
