Russ and I were newlyweds and 27 years old. Married only 3 months and 2 days when 9/11 happened. He was a new deputy still in training and I was about to leave to work in a high rise building in downtown Denver for a bank. Russ was at work and I was watching Good Morning America while I was finished getting ready for work. I saw the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower live on TV and then was watching an interview with someone at the Pentagon when the plane hit them. Something I will never get out of my head. I called Russ, I was scared to go to work, my whole drive towards downtown was looking at the sky. I had 2 cousins that lived and worked in Manhattan at the time. We found out later, they were ok.

Russ’ little brother Andrew joined the Marines a few years later after he graduated high school because of 9/11, he was killed by a suicide bomber a little over a year later on 10/30/2004. He was 19 years old.

It is our pleasure to introduce Mr. and Mrs. Wines. Yes, Rae and Austin eloped, but we plan to have a celebration next year. In the meantime we have a wonderful new son-in-law that has won our hearts and obviously Rae’s too. by @jbmorr2
