GemologyGeek's Erica Silverglide has a new collection called Ignite, which proves that the trait of fluorescence in jewels is a feature not a flaw. "For decades, the diamond trade treated that glow as a defect. Dealers in the 1970s discounted 'milky' fluorescent stones, and after an over-grading scandal in South Korea in the early 1990s, fluorescent diamonds took a lasting price hit. Silverglide recalls trade coverage of the era dismissing fluorescent diamonds as a poor man’s stone.
