Charles Alexander Core aka Charlie made his grand entrance at 1:52 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025; weighing 8lbs 12 oz and 20.5 inches long.
.
While his birth didn’t go how we originally planned, I’m so grateful God gave us an extra day with our little Angel. We are completely and utterly in love.

MOTIVATION

Most health and fitness goals start with extrinsic motivation:
- The desire to look better naked.
- The fear of death/getting sick.
- The pursuit of social validation.
None of these motives are bad, but unfortunately for most people they are fleeting.

Why?

The gap between starting and the results they want is too vast.

This is why, at the beginning of any new member journey we do more frequent goal setting. We establish realistic timelines for the goal they want to achieve, break the goal down into smaller bite sized goals and make sure to check in often and celebrate each small win!

Over time, results that people aren’t expecting start to occur.
- They feel less stressed or anxious during the day
- Their sleep quality improves
- Their confidence improves and they find previously difficult tasks easier to complete (Grit baby!)
- They start to get better at the activities they originally only viewed as a tool/catalyst for achieving their stated goal (Growth)

Over time, these observations start to evolve where one’s motivation comes from, from extrinsic to intrinsic.

Intrinsic motivation is far superior to extrinsic motivation when it comes to sustainability of a practice. You’re now doing a positive thing “for the love of the game” so to speak.

As I move into the middle of week 2 of working with my nutrition coach, I am definitely still entrenched in extrinsic motivation haha but I am feeling those secondary results kick in and remembering what it’s like to be in top of my nutrition. I’m excited to deepen my reason for keeping my nutrition game strong 😎

As mentioned above, motivation is a fickle bitch 😂

Get help.

Embrace the accountability that help offers and ask for MORE help when you need it.

If you’re thinking about starting your own journey with something new, write down your big audacious goal! Break into smaller bite sized achievable parts and get after it!

ACCOUNTABILITY

This week I officially hired a nutrition coach!

Some people might think that’s strange considering I own a gym and am also a nutrition coach, but bear with me and keep reading haha.

“I know what I need to do, I just need to do it.”

I hear this from people all the time, usually accompanied by the litany of reasons for why they aren’t currently taking the action steps needed to actually achieve their goals.

Lately, I’ve found myself saying this a few too many times about my own nutrition and body composition.

Of course I could do this for myself, but everything has a cost.

I’m not hiring a coach because I don’t know what needs to be done (I’ve been coaching for almost 2 decades) but because I truly believe in the immense value of receiving coaching!

Hiring Coach Kelsey to do High Accountability Nutrition Coaching with me was an easy choice. I’m paying for knowledgeable feedback, accountability and outsourcing the mental energy and time needed to structure this change. As a result, I am paying for faster progress with less mental effort.

Swipe for more!

GETTING STARTED

The nutrition coaching process starts with an intake session where we establish a baseline, set specific goals and pick a habit to focus on that makes the biggest dent early.

What did we establish in mine?

Life is difficult! Life throws curve balls at you. It’s easy to let important things slip! I have a lot of other high stress life factors that are demanding my mental bandwidth right now. As a result, I’ve fallen into some old eating patterns lately that are making me feel low energy and wrecking my body composition.

When I’m stressed, I skip meals and often stay up too late watching shows to cope. When I skip enough meals I eat late and I eat everything 😂 This combination results in poor energy balance throughout the day, unwanted fat gain and just generally not performing like I want to in my daily life and workouts. Those things are all important to me!

My specific goals for the next 12 weeks:
BW- 241.9 down to 225-230
BFP- 13.9 down to 10-11%
Sleep- As optimal as a 7 month old wil taken in Full Steam CrossFit by @jcore23

COMMUNITY 👊

What an awesome start to the week! The new Lookouts Stadium is incredible. We had a great time watching the game and hanging out with a big chunk of the crew from Full Steam. 😎 Charlie had an absolute blast getting to know everyone and soaking up the excitement of his first baseball game haha.

One of the things I love most about our community is that it extends beyond workouts. Having people to celebrate wins with, share experiences with, and simply enjoy time around makes the journey that much more meaningful.

See you guys in the gym this week!

GRATITUDE

One of the early habits we practice in our nutrition coaching program at Full Steam is something we call Bright Spot Fridays. The goal is simple: intentionally take time to recognize what’s going well. (Challenging!)

More intentional gratitude practice is something I could use more of in my own life right now, so for a little while I’m going to start sharing my weekly bright spots here.

This week, I’m grateful that I was able to stay consistent with my workouts while traveling to visit family. If you’ve ever traveled, you know how easy it is for routines to disappear—especially when you’re on vacation. I was able to find a balance between training, spending time with family, and getting the relaxation I needed.

My second bright spot is that I genuinely feel recovered. The last several months have been busy, and this week gave me a chance to recharge. I feel ready to come home, step back into normal life, and tackle the challenges ahead with more energy than I had before leaving.

And finally, and most importantly, I’m grateful for quality time with family, date nights and workout with wife, beach time with Charlie, and a little space to slow down.

What are your bright spots from this week?

REST=GROWTH

We’ve had a great time so far on our little vacation to South Georgia! Lots of family time, took Charlie to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center on Jekyll Island, the beach on St. Simons and have had lots of time in the pool!

Per usual when I’ve had sleep and some time off I have been doing a lot of thinking and self reflection ❤️

If you know me well, you know I live my life with too many irons in the fire. I’m always working on something, training for something or plotting my next project. I thrive on the energy, challenge, and chaos that comes with pursuing something new and exciting.

The last 8 months has been the most challenging, stressful, emotionally draining, and simultaneously most rewarding season of my life (so far). We signed the lease for what is now Full Steam 4.0, Charlie arrived a week later 🎉, my mom’s condition took a major downturn shortly after, and the gym build-out came with every curveball you could imagine.

What this season is teaching me is that success isn’t forged solely by how hard you can push. Pacing doesn’t just matter in workouts. It’s ok to slow down and catch your breath in life and business as well. You have to manage stress before it manages you.

Most importantly, it’s highlighted how essential it is to have a good support system. Family. Friends. Coaches. Teammates. There have been so many instances where I would have been lost without my family (especially my wife), friends, my team, my coaches and mentors. (Thank you to all of you.)

We often think progress comes from doing more. Sometimes progress comes from slowing down, asking for help, and taking care of yourself well enough to keep showing up for the people and goals that matter most. I struggle with that, but it’s true.

The longer I’m around, coaching others and taking time for self reflection, the more confirmation I get that recovery isn’t the opposite of growth—it’s a requirement for it.

I’m committed to coming out of this phase of life a better husband, father, friend, business owner, and team mate.

Here’s to rest, healthy support systems, stress management skills and GROWTH! 🍾🥂 taken in St. Simons Island, Georgia by @jcore23

“What is your why?”

It’s one of the first and one of the most important questions we ask every new member during their initial goal-setting session at Full Steam.

It’s also a question we revisit often.

Why? Because your “why” tends to evolve and deepen over time.

Whether your goal is related to fitness, health, relationships, finances, or any other area of life, the people who are most successful are usually the ones who have connected that goal to something bigger than the goal itself.

A strong “why” helps you stay consistent when motivation fades 💪🏻

These days, my fitness goals aren’t really about fitness but instead how my fitness and health fits into the bigger picture of my life. My why.

They’re about being a reliable husband.

Setting a positive example for my son.

Having the energy and capacity to lead my team and serve our members well.

The workouts, nutrition, and recovery habits are simply tools that help me become the person I strive to be ❤️

So what’s your why? And has it changed since you first started your journey? taken in Full Steam CrossFit by @jcore23

“I’m looking for 5 people who are ready to make a significant lifestyle change in the next 30 days”
🔥
I know, it’s cliche haha, but I am serious! I have completely revamped our onboarding program at Full Steam and I have a special discounted offer for the first 5 people that sign up! Spoiler alert, I am going to want your feedback as a trade off!
😤
A little back story. I have been a lifer in the fitness industry. I started personal training as a career when I was 19 and haven’t stopped coaching for what is getting terrifyingly close to 20 years.
🧙🏻‍♂️
That said, the most successful LONG TERM lifestyle changes I’ve seen over the years never come from one “magic” solution.
😎
Lasting lifestyle change happens when people are supported from multiple angles at the same time. True accountability from multiple sources.
🏅
When fitness improves…
Recovery improves.
Sleep improves.
Stress becomes more manageable.
Nutrition becomes easier to sustain.
Energy improves.
Confidence improves.
🎉
That’s why we’ve worked so hard to build Full Steam the way we have.
❤️
Our members don’t just get workouts. They get access to:
• Physical therapy and sports massage in-house for injury prevention, recovery, and performance
• A team of nutrition coaches who focus on the bigger picture — stress, sleep, habits, relationships, and lifestyle, not just calories
• Multiple fitness coaching options ranging from personal training to CrossFit classes to specialty small group fitness programs
💯
Recently, we completely revamped our onboarding program so new members can experience how powerful it is when all of these services work together instead of separately.
🤝
If you have read this far and have been thinking about getting started, DM me and lets schedule some time to talk!
