I’ve learned many lessons in my 30s but these are the top 5:

1. Jumping into another serious relationship without taking the time to fully heal from the previous.

This is by far my biggest regret. Take the time and learn yourself, who you are and what you really want. Learn to love yourself first and if needed, spend that time improving on emotional maturity and becoming a better individual and partner for your next relationship.

2. Not taking the time to educate myself financially on investing.

If only I knew in my early 30s (even 20s) what I know now. My advice if you are scared of investing and not sure what to do, do the research and teach yourself. Don’t wait, time is your friend. It is the best investment.

3. People come and go, don’t take it personal.

The saying is true. People will come for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. And you have to be the one to determine which category they will fall in. Not everyone is meant to come with you on your journey.

4. Not going after the things you want in life because of fear and judgement.

This has kept me stagnant most of my life with my dreams and how I’ve wanted to build the life I want. It took a pandemic and some trauma to get me out of that mindset and finally set out to just go for it.

5. You may not always get the closure you were hoping for.

Sometimes people don’t want to or can’t meet you with the same emotional capability or maturity that you need or possess. You can’t force one to, so give yourself the closure and move tf on.

I’ve been living life backwards so to speak.

I didn’t party or go out that much in my 20s and early 30s because I was trying to be grown and be in serious relationships that I had no business being in.

So I started going out in my mid 30s to see what I’ve been missing all those years.

And honestly I’ve had a time! I’ve been waiting to feel that moment of “yeaaa im too old for this ish” and it has finally hit me.

So I’m hanging up the club coat at 39 (don’t come for me) and focusing on more experiences and what I love, travel.

Anyone else start life backwards or just me?

I have six months left in my 30s and I’ve been keeping notes.

Here’s what I’m keeping and leaving behind:

I’m keeping the lessons.
The people who show up.
The courage to start over.
Taking better care of myself in all aspects.
Choosing discipline over comfortability.

But I’m leaving behind the comparison.
The self-doubt.
The need to have everything figured out.
The fear of starting over.
And the belief that I’m somehow behind.

I don’t need to have my entire life figured out before 40.

I just want to walk into my 40s knowing I finally started building a life that feels like mine.
