OM SYSTEM Adventure Spotlight! 📸

Meet OM SYSTEM Photographer Damien - A landscape, outdoor adventure, and wildlife photographer based in Florida!

1. How did you become a photographer?
I wanted to stop living on autopilot and experience life more intentionally. Photography gave me a reason to go out, notice, experience, and create.

2. Why do you choose OM SYSTEM gear?
The looks and colors caught my attention, but the creative versatility hooked me. The gear feels designed around creating, experimenting, and bringing ideas to life.

3. What’s in your current kit?
My OM-3 and 12–40mm F2.8 PRO are my main kit, but I’m becoming a camera hoarder—OM-D bodies, vintage lenses, and Olympus film cameras.

4. What inspires your photography?
I’m inspired by real moments and learning to see them differently, growing creatively, and making something tangible from the way I experience life.

About six months with the OM-3 and somewhere around 10,000 shutter actuations later.

I think the biggest compliment I can give this camera is that it hasn’t let me down.

I’ve traveled with it, hiked and camped with it, shot landscapes, street, wildlife, events, portraits and plenty of things completely outside of what I normally photograph.

Good light, bad light, rain, heat, fast moving subjects, long exposures, slow shutter handheld shots and plenty of situations where I was just experimenting to see what I could make.

And that last part is what I’ve enjoyed most about it.

The OM-3 hasn’t just handled everything I’ve thrown at it. It’s pushed me to try more.

To shoot subjects I normally wouldn’t. To play with movement, color, black and white, flash, long exposures and different ways of making an image instead of always trying to make the technically “perfect” photograph.

Six months later, I spend a lot less time thinking about what this camera can or can’t do.

I just grab it, go somewhere, and figure out what I can make with it.

Probably the best thing a camera can give you.

Lately, I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with how I share my photography.

Between making reels and putting together these collage-style carousels, I feel like I’ve found another creative outlet within photography itself.

It’s been cool revisiting photos I’ve already taken and finding new ways to present them, even if I’ve shared them before. Different layouts, sequencing, and combinations can give the same photos an entirely different feel.

I think that’s what I’ve been enjoying most lately. Photography doesn’t have to end when you press the shutter or finish editing. There’s still so much room to experiment, tell stories, and create something new.

Took a $50 gamble on eBay and I think it paid off. 🎞️

Picked up this Olympus OM-2n listed as “untested/for parts.” The light meter doesn’t work, but the shutter seems to be accurate, and that’s really all I needed to give it a shot.

A few rolls of film later, and I’m pretty dang happy with the results.

I’ve been having a blast learning film photography, experimenting with different film stocks, and finding new ways to get creative with these collages.

Just goes to show that you don’t always need to spend a fortune to make some cool photos.

$50 for a camera that’s older than I am. What a deal. 🤙

I’ve been diving deeper into what the OM-3 can do lately, and Live Composite has quickly become one of my favorite features to experiment with.

And now that we’re rolling into autumn, I’m finding myself shooting monochrome more and more. Overcast skies, flat light, days where the color just isn’t doing much sometimes switching to black and white completely changes the way I see the scene.

Instead of fighting the conditions, I’m starting to look forward to them.

Give me some clouds, a little movement, Live Composite and monochrome. I love this season for photography.

Film has made photography feel new again.

I’m definitely not starting from scratch, but there’s enough about shooting film that feels completely foreign compared to digital that I’ve found myself learning photography all over again in a different way.

And weirdly, that’s carried over into how I share the photos too. I’ve been having a lot of fun building these collage-style carousels instead of just posting individual frames.

Different cameras, different film stocks, learning how to expose them, waiting to see what actually came out—and then figuring out how I want to put everything together afterward.

It’s given me another reason to experiment, and lately I’ve been more excited about photography because of it.

First shots with the Olympus OM-1 + Tri-X 400.

It was ridiculously bright that day, and shooting ISO 400 film with a camera that tops out at 1/1000 had me worried about overexposure. Most of this roll was shot around 1/1000 at f/16.

But I’m learning that negative film wants me to think almost opposite of how I shoot digital.

With digital, I’m usually protecting my highlights—sometimes underexposing by ⅓ or ⅔ of a stop knowing I can bring the shadows back in post.

Film? Feed the shadows.

I’d rather give Tri-X a little too much light than not enough. Negative film can hold a surprising amount of highlight information, but once those shadows don’t get enough exposure, there isn’t much there to recover.

Still learning with every roll.

Florida looks pretty good on film. 🌴🎞️

A few frames from around the Gulf Coast on Kodak Ultramax 400.

The more I shoot film, the more I find myself photographing the ordinary stuff—the boats sitting in yards, palms along the beach, fishing rods, old lifeguard stands, people enjoying the water. Things I probably would’ve walked right past before.

Maybe that’s what I’m starting to love most about film. It makes the everyday stuff feel worth remembering.

A little Florida on Tri-X.

Olympus OM-2n + Kodak Tri-X 400.

The more black and white I shoot, the more I understand why Tri-X has been around for so long. Some places just don’t need color.

I think I’m officially hooked. It just looks so dang good, and I really want to start experimenting with how far I can push it.

How do you shoot Tri-X 400? Box speed? Overexposed? Pushed? Or is there another black-and-white film you prefer?
