When the Wright Brothers introduced the first self propelled aircraft in 1903, a feat that no one ever expected became reality. Mankind seized the skies and established their place amongst the birds. Aviation has grown enormously since then, but only about 6% of pilots are women making it one of the slowest growth rates in STEM. I am honored to be a part of this percentage and look forward to continue my training in this world which derived from the mere fascination of the creatures that fly. The younger version of myself is so proud of this version of myself. It has always been all for her.

Last 30 days have been pretty radical

As I am entering my third month in Southeast Asia, I am reflecting on how I wasn’t originally planning on joining my friends, but decided last minute to book a plane ticket. I am never thankful for my impulsiveness, but in this situation I am eternally grateful.

I met my friends here in May, and when they left in June, I decided to stay. This is my first time solo traveling but it feels like I’ve been here for years and like I have 1000 friends everywhere I go. My favorite part of July was befriending locals and staying with them at their family home in Singaraja for a few days. The people here have taught me that it doesn’t take much to be happy. All you need is food, family, friends, and faith - I hope to carry this with me when I return home. taken in Bali, Indonesia by @jdddav

I am shattered and shocked and devastated beyond comprehension to be making this post.

I was informed yesterday that my precious Buddy had been attacked by dogs leading to the loss of his life. I am on the other side of the world right now and had to watch him pass through FaceTime. I cannot find the words to explain how I feel to my stomach. And I can’t believe he had to go through it without me at his side. We are hardly ever not at each other’s side.

Buddy has been my best companion for the last 6 years. When I adopted him and his sister Bell from an animal control center in Louisiana, I had no idea the impact they’d make on my life. I had no idea all the places we’d go. And I had no idea how much I would come to need what humans can rarely offer a person - unconditional love.

I went through a very rough season in my life a few years ago and Buddy was at times the only reason I’d get out of bed, simply because he had to be fed and let outside. I often felt undeserving of companionship but he was always there with no complaints or judgment. He was my only friend in this world for a little while. I wish he understood how much it meant to me.

We packed up, sold the house in Louisiana and left town headed west to Colorado where we started over - Where we would end up thriving. It didn’t take long for us to get our footing. Buddy loved the snow and he loved all the new people we met as time went on. His favorite thing was to run off leash down white county roads. He also loved lake days and camping with all of his human friends. Some days, his dads would pick him up and take him on adventures while I worked. Buddy also was a big fan of roadtrips and going bye bye. Truly a dog made for someone just like me. He was loved by everyone who met him, even if he shit on the floor or peed on their stuff from time to time.

I had new adventures ahead planned for us and I’m so heartbroken that he won’t get to join his sister Bell and I. Bell is going to miss her brother so much. My biggest blessings, traveling buddies, heart & soul. I will never forget as time marches on the impact that baby boy had on me in this chapter of my life. Your mama misses you baby.
