Reality check…
A week into the crowdfunder, and I sat down and just said what’s actually been on my mind.

Nobody really talks about what it’s like to self-fund a business. The multiple jobs. The money that goes back into events, resources and opportunities before it ever goes into your own pocket. The hours that happen behind the scenes that nobody sees, because all anyone ever sees is the finished thing.

Raising money is hard in a way I don’t think I fully understood until I was actually doing it. It’s not just the numbers, it’s putting yourself and the thing you’ve built out there and hoping people see the same value in it that you do.

I’m not saying this to complain or sound entitled at all. I’m saying it because I think founders don’t talk about this part enough, and I’d rather be honest about the hard bits than only post the wins.

I see and feel the support even if the numbers don’t reflect it 🫶🏽

Keep sharing and if you can spare it, donations of any size mean more than you can imagine.

I’m not too proud to ask for help when it’s needed… that’s what community is fore.

Every free event we’ve thrown. Every free resource we’ve put out. Every opportunity we’ve handed to creatives in our community, with nothing asked for in return, came out of my own pocket, on top of everything else I do to actually pay my bills.

I did it because I believed it mattered. I still do. But belief doesn’t cover venue costs, and it doesn’t scale.

Everyone shows up for the free event. Everyone’s there for the free drink, the free workshop, the free access. And that’s fine, that’s what it’s fore, that’s the whole point.

But now I’m asking for something back.

We’ve launched a crowdfunder to fund what comes next, our new community platform and a proper year of programming, built to last instead of held together by me working myself into the ground.

It’s live now until 1st November @fore.uk

If FORE has ever given you something, an opportunity, a connection, a place to belong, this is the moment to give something back. Even if it’s just sharing this with someone who’d care.
