When these pop up in my memories, it reminds me how much I miss these days.

That’s one of the hardest parts of life. You spend so much time looking forward to the next milestone, the next season, the next big thing, that it’s easy to forget you’re living in a season you’ll someday wish you could go back to.

Especially with kids, you’re always looking ahead to the next game, the next achievement, and the next stage of growing up. Then you look back at a picture and realize how much has changed and how quickly it all went by.

I’m trying to remind myself that being present doesn’t mean you never worry about tomorrow. It means remembering that tomorrow will come whether you spend today worrying about it or not.

I want to enjoy the little things, soak in the ordinary days, make the memories, and appreciate this season we’re in. The future will come when it comes. taken in Southampton Academy by @jdormanwhite

After a lifetime of love, faithfulness, and laughter, our beloved mother and grandmother, Miriam, ran into the arms of Jesus on September 23, 2026. With her body now healed and whole, she at last gets to sit with her beloved Claxton and hold her sweet baby Jerald. An immeasurable loss for those who love her here, but a joyous and long-awaited homecoming for her.

Miriam Phelps White, of Chesapeake, Virginia, was born a country girl in Bertie County, North Carolina on April 9, 1935. She grew up surrounded by the love and laughter of four sisters and two brothers who affectionately called her Mig. She was a strong athlete, a beautiful musician, and a skilled seamstress. At the age of 18, she found the love of a lifetime in Claxton White. She and Claxton loved to travel, and saw much of the country side-by-side.

Miriam and Claxton adored their three children, Jeffrey Dorman, Jill Leigh, and Jerald Grant, who was taken from them too soon. An attentive mother, Miriam dedicated her life to her children, who she considered her greatest joy. Her children gave her five spirited grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Brian, Janie, and Neal, and 14 beautiful great-grandchildren, Abby, Ally, Tasia, Jaxon, Brayden, Sadie, Danika, Maleah, Oakley, Braxton, Lucy, Calvin, Georgia, and Graham.

Miriam’s love for her family was deep and unmatched. This love was proven in the big and small moments that she never missed: the ballgames, dance recitals, sleepovers, family dinners, and lingering phone calls. For her family, her love and presence were as steady and constant as her Haledon Drive home–the back door always open, ready to welcome us in.

She deeply cherished her family, but Jesus was the truest love of Miriam’s life. There was nothing as special to her as being in church, singing hymns, and talking to Jesus. Miriam’s steadfast faith was the connecting thread of her life, weaving a tapestry of faith, love, and hope for generations. We are certain that she is thrilled to be Home with Jesus, where she is finally at perfect peace singing at his feet.

I remember writing you letters at school on my notebook paper and send you those letters in the mail asking to stay the night.. I’d ride the school bus to your house and as we pulled up to the house I’d see you sitting there on the porch waiting on me. I cherish all those weekends with canned spaghetti and peaches.. putting puzzles together at the table and watching football games. I know you’re in a better place now.. and just like before you’ll be waiting on me.. sitting out front of heavens door.. waiting for me. I love you Gramma 💔 by @jdormanwhite
