This month, we’ve seen three 4Runners come in for a Body Mount Chop, but each one left with just a proper alignment. After lifting and adding larger tires, a custom alignment is crucial. Larger tires can often rub against the body mount when making turns, leading to potential damage and decreased performance. Through a proper alignment, we can adjust the caster angle, effectively moving the wheel forward by nearly 0.5 inches. This adjustment not only alleviates tire rubbing on the body mount but also enhances overall handling and stability. Ensuring your vehicle is correctly aligned after modifications is key to maintaining its integrity and performance on and off the road.

Another TRD OR KDSS Delete for the books!

Not sure what the heck KDSS is???

KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System)

It is an automatic hydraulic system made by Toyota. It controls the sway bars on vehicles like the 4Runner, GX and Land Cruiser to improve both highway handling and off-road wheel movement.

How KDSS Works

On-Road: The hydraulic fluid stays locked in place. This keeps the thick sway bars stiff, which stops the truck from leaning too much in sharp turns.

Off-Road: When one wheel drops or hits a bump at slow speeds, the fluid moves freely between the front and rear cylinders. This unlocks the sway bars so each wheel can move on its own.No Buttons: The system works all by itself. You do not need to push a switch or get out to disconnect anything.

Main Parts

Hydraulic Cylinders: Placed on the ends of the front and rear sway bars. (Commonly leak)

Hydraulic Lines: Metal pipes and hoses that link the front and rear systems together.

Accumulators: Help manage the fluid pressure as the terrain changes. (Commonly corroded and leaks from salt belt)

Pros and Cons

Pros: Gives a smooth, flat ride on pavement and high wheel flexibility on dirt trails.

Cons: Makes lifting or modifying the suspension more complex and costly. When the system fails it’s very costly to repair. Hence why we remove the system and install a regular sway bar system found on SR5/Limited/Pro models.

Having KDSS issues? Fear not, we have the capability to repair or delete the system!
