Three years ago I went through the most difficult season of my life, undergoing surgery for MALS. I recognize this moment every year, because in many ways I’m still healing and processing the disruption it caused my life. Many MALS patients will warn that healing and moving on from everything can take years, and for me that has been true. If you’re looking for more information about MALS, on my website (link in bio) you can find a free pdf of a patient guide I wrote about my experience. I gave it a big old update this year and I’m really proud to have it as a resource for those looking for an intimate portrayal of how this medical issue plays out in real time. Just go to the MALS tab :)I’ll keep shouting about this chaotic little moment of my life for years, because not enough people (medical professionals) know about compression syndromes and how devastating they can be. Despite the extreme low this condition put me in, I’m thankful for the whole experience and for the opportunity to heal. I’m thinking about myself three years ago and sending her strength. It can be so hard to come out of a tough place and find the light again, but the journey is so very much worth it. I’m grateful to say I feel stronger, healthier and more at ease now than I ever have. One of my all time favorite movies has always been How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Aside from loving how much of a schemer Andy is, I was in awe of the type of life she lived: working with friends in a beautiful office, living with purpose, pursuing her dreams and love for writing even when it meant making difficult choices, the thriving social life & access to culture, art and opportunity… in my adulthood I’ve realized many of my favorite films and tv shows took place in New York—the city a main character in each story which I yearned for and fell in love with. It dawned on me the other day as I was taking a picture in my newly thrifted Knicks jersey, in my office with a perfect view, that I’ve accomplished finding that exact life I’d dreamt of for so long. Living in New York has been more difficult than I ever imagined and more incredible too. I don’t take for granted what a gift it is to be here. And while I’d never claim to be a New Yorker—a title which can only be bestowed upon you or perhaps never had by someone who wasn’t born here— whenever we are traveling and people ask where we are from, I am proud to say we live in the greatest city in the world. New York City isn’t perfect, but especially with Mamdani as mayor, it’s damn near close. LETS FUCKING GO KNICKS!!🎉💙🧡 by @jeanette_bednar

And here is my 2025 in (some but not nearly all) wonderful moments. 🩵This year did feel chaotic and I fear I missed the plot of ✨ease✨ which is funny bc as I’ve been thinking about my intentions for 2026 they’ve been very goal orientedBut welcoming back in a little more ease (please) as we enter 2026. :) (while holding space for the chaos of the world idk we got this) I’ll keep the fit checks coming (maybe)2026 will be the first full year of intentional ootds and that is very fun!
