I'm celebrating the return of this stick bug. They've been gone for a few years and I was worried. Apparently harsh droughts have a detrimental effect on adults but their eggs have a delayed hatching once the conditions improve, even years later. I'm thinking our little wildflower patch gave them their chance this year because we watered it some. The flowers also provided snacks. I'm so happy to see this little female! by @jeaneweigel72

Lovely bank of clouds over the Sangres this morning as our glorious rains continue. by @jeaneweigel72

My morning walk. This is looking down into the Española Valley and is the result of much needed, nourishing rain we've received over the last several days. NOAA estimates that the total volume was 2 trillion gallons so far. The Rio Grande has, literally, been completely dry over long sections. It's running again thanks to this amazing rainfall. That big cloud looks like more is on the way. Not enough but we'll take every drop we can get. by @jeaneweigel72

Came across these old photos taken by my friend, Kevin Hulett. That's my goodest boy, Tobey, who always helped me at the easel. by @jeaneweigel72

A lovely partial rainbow the other night. I don't think I've ever seen one before with the purple so deep. by @jeaneweigel72

Still digging through old photos for a project I'm working on and came across these. I had a gallery on the main road many years ago. One day I was eating at my desk and heard chirping. When I turned I saw a baby chipmunk coming out from under the heater. It looked like it was asking for help. I made a little plate of beans from my burrito and put out a dish of water. Soon there were 4 little ones eating and drinking. After they had their fill they took a nap, one of them on the chair where I was sitting. It reached its paw out and touched my jacket and slept there for some time. The others were more comfortable curling up in the curtains behind me. After a good sleep they took to playing. They stayed for 5 days and then moved outside, strong enough to be independent. It was one of the sweetest experiences of my life. by @jeaneweigel72

A zoom lens shot of Pedernal at sunset from my bedroom. by @jeaneweigel72

Just a sweet picture shot out the window of the wonderful Hand Artes Gallery many years ago that gives an idea of the magic always present in this little village where I live. by @jeaneweigel72

I've been digging through old photo files and came upon these that I wanted to share. It's lovely to see snow while we're in this hot drought and threatened by fires. Some of you are old enough to remember the Burma Shave signs posted along 1950s highways. I loved them as a girl. They were the inspiration for these. I live about 3/4 of a mile off the county road at the end of a winding dirt road. People were getting lost coming to see me so I installed these 20 years ago to lead the way. Most of them are still there. by @jeaneweigel72

The wildflower bed continues to change but I fear some of the flowers are already starting to fade. The rosemary and Russian sage are thriving. by @jeaneweigel72

The drought isn't just a strain on people. It's harming our wildlife too, so we put a large bucket of water on the edge of our land to try to help them a bit. The acequias aren't running and the stream at the bottom of the arroyo is dry. The stick is so that small critters like chipmunks and mice can get out if they fall in. by @jeaneweigel72

That's the Frijoles Fire looking out my windows (the last photo is taken from Nambe Pueblo by the Pueblo Rangers). It's grown to over 6,200 acres and is 0% contained. I shot this during the day and you can see it's like dusk because of the smoke. The brown ground is usually lush with green native grasses. That's how dry it's been. At night I can see the flames. Parts of Cundiyó, just down the mountain from me, are being evacuated and my friends in Córdova have been put on Set status because they're in the same mountain and canyon system. For some reason, Chimayó, which sits just below Córdova, isn't mentioned. Truchas is considered safe and trenches are being dug to protect it and El Valle. The fire is now burning to the east away from us, but the smoke is blowing northeast all the way to Taos and hitting us all hard. Doge and FEMA cutbacks are affecting the response and some people are flying personal drones over the area forcing water tankers out of the air. So many places around the world, not just NM, are on fire and our government says climate change is a hoax. Sending out positive energy for change. by @jeaneweigel72
