Easy foul, funky enforcement!

Interesting one from the @bafaflag National semifinal between @glasgowhornets and @cardiffhurricanes. Because the first defender pulls the flag before the collision, that makes it a dead ball foul. Instead of going 10 yards back from the previous spot, we go 10 back from the end of the run instead.

(Yes, in slow motion, it was a lot closer than 2 yards out when the flag pull happened 😳) by @jedsybl

10 athletes moving at high speed in a small space means collisions do happen that aren't necessarily fouls. Here's one from the @bafaflag national semifinal between @glasgowhornets and @cardiffhurricanes (AKA the @thewaywehncit_flag_football bowl between @disco.eightfive and @bourke20)

Question: When is a jump not JUMPING?

Answer: When the defender isn't trying to pull the flags!

Really interesting play from the @bafaflag Premiership Final between @coventryphoenixflag and @bordercitycenturions showing the intricacies of the rule! taken in Coventry Rugby Club by @jedsybl

@ifafmedia World Flag 2026... Just wow. Amazing to work with such a driven group of officials from around the world, truly felt like we elevated things compared to every tournament that had come before. Capping it with the opportunity to represent @bafaofficial and work the men's Gold Medal game was just the cherry on top.

Congratulations to every athlete who showcased how amazing our sport is and thank you to every organiser and volunteer that made the tournament what it was.

For me personally though, three simple words;

@copenhagen_bowl clinic highlights!

In a perfect world, the officials get everything right all the time. We don't live in a perfect world!

@zetaref offers his thoughts on why no calls (where we don't flag something that turns out to be a foul) are better than incorrect calls, where we have a flag down when there wasn't actually a foul.

If in doubt, play the percentages and keep your flag in your pocket!

Fun play from the Big Bowl placement game between @ljubljanafrogs_flagfootball and @dutch_mambas. As @qbcutler put it; "not how we drew it up" by @jedsybl

Really tough play where I think there's a lot to learn from @dunboynewildcats vs. @foxdechantilly in the Big Bowl group stages.

@finnkearnsflag absolutely has a point that the defender is very grabby as he runs his route. I've tried to crop this based on where I'm focussing, then included zoomed in slow-mo, and with two receivers coming to my side initially, those are my primary keys, with me coming to the actual catch later, which is why I personally don't pick this up. Shows how important it is for us to use our keys and some of the challenges we face when working with team officials who might not have the experience to see this. by @jedsybl

I asked @jedsybl what advice he would give to a young official in Kenya and anywhere else in the world, who is considering to join officiating and this is what he had to say...

@jedsybl you are such an inspiration to officials all over the world. We've all watched you officiate, and you have indeed set the bar very high. We can only hope to learn from you and one day be as good as you.
Lots of love from your second home... East Africa😉❤️❤️ taken in Copenhagen, Dennmark by @jedsybl

Multi QB madness from @munichspatzen in their Big Bowl quarterfinal against @hammers_flagfootball!

Tips for the referee in these situation:

🏃 Move quickly to the sideline as soon as you identify additional players dropping back. It keeps you out the way!

🔛 Stay on the same line as the deepest player to make it easier to judge whether passes are backwards or forwards.

🗣️🤜 Loudly shout the direction of each pass in the backfield and signal by punching in the relevant direction so everyone knows if a legal forward pass is still possible. by @jedsybl

Running clocks all game at Big Bowl mean you gotta go quick, especially in the last 2 minutes 🏃🥵!

Near the end of the first half of the final between @walldorfwanderers and @munichspatzen - @benjaminklever gets sacked then, in typical fashion, drops an absolute dime to set the Wanderers up in the red zone. by @jedsybl
