I found a pre-pandemic film roll the other week and got it developed 3 years later. So many good memories! One thing that stood out was the next day after going to the Raps vs GSW game with Jacob the world shut down. Happy I was able to spend my birthday with friends a few days prior. Shout out to personal growth and spreading good vibes. taken in San Francisco, California by @jeetsin

My first roll of BW film. This roll was over a year old. My eldest nephew was still a toddler and my second love Xena was still around. Change is an incredible, uncontrollable concept. #ilfordhp5 taken in Toronto, Ontario by @jeetsin

Back in March I lost my job. I never really spoke to anyone about it, but a close few knew what had happened and how much panic, shock and disbelief I was in. It took a few weeks, but things finally became clear to me. I wasn’t happy with what I was doing. I was grateful for my job, but I actually disliked it. Don’t get it twisted, I love my craft, but I disliked how I was applying my skill sets to projects I wasn’t passionate about. I went to work, got paid and lived a comfortable life...or so I thought. I wasn’t being challenged, I wasn’t being inspired and I was stuck in a rut. I became complacent. I was probably borderline depressed tbh. However absurd the cards I was dealt, it was a blessing in disguise when I became jobless... During my time off, I rediscovered myself. I found out how much I love being handy, how much I love spending time with Otis, how much I enjoy working out and how much I love being with my family and friends. At the end of the day I learned that the most valuable currency I have is time. I couldn’t increase how much I owned or saved of it; it’s a currency that’s always being spent and I was spending it unwisely.

Anyways, what does this long post have to do with anything? It takes time for you to become the best person you can be and for you to achieve your goals. Be patient with yourself and where you are in life. The time you’re waiting between the next good thing to happen or for self discovery/betterment is debt being paid to have achieve it. We’re too demanding and spoiled with instant everything, patience really is a virtue.

I had to wait a long time, but I fulfilled a dream of mine through sheer opportunity to move out to California and work for a company that I admired and respected. It has a lot of pros and cons that I’m still trying to figure out, but I’m genuinely happier. These photos are from my first 3 months here in San Francisco. Apparently I’m still learning body awareness cause my finger was in almost every shot, but I kind of like it. As a friend commented when I got these developed “there’s something nice about the viewer having to fill in the blanks with their own imagination.”. I decided last month that I would start shooting film for a big reason, which I’ll disclose at a later date. For now, I really wanted to capture a Toronto summer with family and friends. Not everything came out the way I had hoped, but given this was my first time shooting, I’m so happy with the way these turned out. I have a bit of a light leak on the left side which I think I can quick fix, but otherwise this vintage SLR is still kicking it. I said this to a friend earlier but this camera used to belong to my grandpa who rarely used it and passed it on to my parents who also never used it. I didn’t really get to know my grandpa that well because he passed when I was pretty young, but I feel like this was a way for us to do that after all these years ☺️. Anyways these were some of my favourites from the roll. They were captured with a Nikon EM SLR on Kodak Portra 800. I love how this film can be used at 800 but really shines at 2-3 stops over exposure (200). I think I even shot things at 1600 and they looked great with super fine grain. (Also pay for your film scans...don’t DIY!) taken in Toronto, Ontario by @jeetsin
