I’m reflecting this morning about how help my people to “love their neighbor” in the midst of the issues we’re facing in the USA. According to this poll from Pew Research Center in 2015, only 23% of Americans represent die-hard Democrats and Republicans. Everyone else is on a scale of moderate. Yet we have a two party polarity system that seems unwilling to work together, due to the money and power of the DNC and GOP.

Folks, your neighbors are far more nuanced than the division of the two party system would have you believe. I believe we have a system problem… Please give one another grace. I think if we will slow down and hold each other with love, we will discover a great many ways that we can solve problems together. by @jeff.m.keller

One of my favorite movies is “Howl’s Moving Castle”. It’s a story about a magician who takes on a young girl who has been cursed to appear as an old woman during a time of world unrest. I won’t spoil the story, because it’s so very good. But a quote I’ve been thinking about today is “a heart is a heavy burden.”

I want to share why I am rocking the StarWars rebel alliance symbol on my socials and my jacket these days. Those who know me, know that I am extremely hesitant to speak out on politics. Frankly, I think politics in the USA is in a bad spot on both the left and the right and that our two party default needs to be dismantled, although there are bright spots here and there. That being said, right now our nation is on fire.

The constitution is being trampled. Our president is threatening invasion against our closest allies, Canada and the UN, to the point congress had to present legislation to prevent military invasion. People in the US are having their rights and protections stripped away as their first amendment rights to free speech and protest are being violated. And the global economy is being devastated.

I’m wearing the patch because I believe in our democratic republic and what it represents, because I want people in the world to have a visual cue that I will stand up for them, and to signal that everyone is safe where I am.

If you feel the same way, I encourage a number of things. Pray for our national leaders to open their ears and hearts to the voice of God. Make a plan to protect your neighbor as a sign of your love for them. And find a way to show others that you will not bow down to kings and Empire. Christ alone is my King. by @jeff.m.keller

I’ve been reading the autobiography of Malcolm X, and spent some time last week watching the film starring Denzel Washington.

It’s important to expose yourself to a variety of different ideas, even if you might disagree with certain conclusions. It’s also important to give space to have our worldviews challenged by folks who experience life differently than us.

Certainly a challenging and good read. God bless!

Thinking this morning about who Jesus is, the Prince of Peace, and how wonderful it is to walk with a Church that is following Him and taking His calling very seriously.

Santa came to visit us for supper on December 18th, and at that meal I saw divisions vanish. People across politics, ethnicity, language, & wealth sat across from one another, broke the same bread, & shared love.

Wasn’t perfect. Nothing on this side of creation is. There is always some hurdle to overcome. But boy oh boy did I ever see Jesus!

It’s June and folks in the LGBTQ+ community will be looking for an answer to a question. Will I be safe and welcome at your table?

During my lifetime, I can recall too many stories and relationships of persons in the LGBTQ+ communities whose lives have been stolen and cut short by bullying, suicide, and even murder.

So each June I post this as a reminder to anyone who needs to know, I am a safe person. You have my shoulder, a hug, and a listening ear. I want you in my life. I will receive you with love and not judgment, condemnation, or anger. Just like Jesus did for me.
