I grew up in Saskatchewan idolizing these guys, and here I am in my forties still living in BC and still working in the snowboard industry. Thanks for taking the time Dev & Rob (and thanks for snapping a photo @dustinbroster 👊) by @jeff.schmid

Favourite Albums of 2025

1: KiNG MALA - And You Who Drowned in the Grief of a Golden Thing

Favourite Songs: ODE TO A BLACK HOLE, POSSESSION, GØD, DEVOTION, GARDEN, LITTLE DEATH

Dark, irreverent, sexy, musically bold… I spent this past year under POSSESSION of this album. If you needed another reason to go see some live music once in a while, consider this: In May I went to see Lights, a musician that I’ve looked up to for as long as I can remember, and I loved the opener of that show so much I would eventually declare her as the best thing I heard all year. I feel truly honoured that 2025 was the year that KiNG MALA’s twisted fantasies took control of my thoughts and wouldn’t leave. 💆‍♂️

Thank you for following along once again. 🙏 We’ll see you next year! by @jeff.schmid

Favourite Albums of 2025

2: Combust - Belly of the Beast

Favourite Songs: Belly of the Beast, Swallowing Swords, N.Y.H.C., Truth Hurts

A New York hardcore band that plays vintage Gibson guitars on stage?? Sign me the fuck up. Was lucky enough to see these guys live twice in 2025, and fell deeply in love with this album. The familiar NYHC sound, with just enough tasty metal licks to forge a masterpiece. Huge shoutout to my friends who told me this was a show I couldn’t miss back in August when I wasn’t all that familiar with them (you know who you are 👊). by @jeff.schmid

Favourite Albums of 2025

3: Bon Iver - SABLE, fABLE

Favourite Songs: AWARDS SEASON, Short Story, Everything is Peaceful Love, S P E Y S I D E, Day One

It’s official… every Bon Iver album is incredible. I don’t pretend to understand what this band has going on in terms of lyrics, themes, artwork, etc., all I know is that I am fully here for it. When I listen to Bon Iver I am fully immersed and transported to a different place, am I’m usually listening to the album start to finish… and ultimately that’s what this list is all about. by @jeff.schmid

Favourite Albums of 2025

4: Zach Top - Ain’t In It For My Health

Favourite Songs: Between The Ditches, South Of Sanity, Guitar, When You See Me

It’s 1995 and I just found this album sandwiched between Alan Jackson and George Strait in my Mom’s CD collection… not actually, but it sure feels that way. Assuming Zach and his producers were trying to pay homage to that era of country music, it would be an understatement to say that they nailed it. The feel-good, throwback vibes are legendary here, and lately I haven’t made it more than three or four days without throwing on this album. by @jeff.schmid

Favourite Albums of 2025

5: Propagandhi - At Peace

Favourite Songs: At Peace, Cat Guy, Stargazing, Day By Day

The pride and joy of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba are back with another heater, and of course back on my Top 5 list. Propagandhi are the gold standard that all Canadian punk rock bands can only try to live up to, and while I don’t think this is their best album, it’s still REALLY DAMN GOOD. Almost 40 years into the band’s run they still say whatever they want, and they still don’t give a shit if it makes you feel uncomfortable. by @jeff.schmid
