• Keep personal belongings close and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
• When shopping online, only use trusted websites and secure payment methods.
• If traveling, let a family member or friend know your plans and check on your home security before you leave.
• Always stay aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.

Serving With a Purpose: Helping Families Initiative

I believe strong families are the foundation of safe and healthy communities. That’s why I launched the West Jefferson Helping Families Initiative (HFI) — to help address challenges at their roots before they grow into bigger problems.

Through this initiative, we work with schools, families, and community partners to connect parents and children with the resources they need to succeed. Whether it’s improving family functioning, supporting children’s well-being, or helping them stay on track in school, HFI is about giving families hope and tools for a brighter future.

For me, protecting Jefferson County isn’t only about fighting crime — it’s about prevention, compassion, and making sure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Children deserve safety, support, and the opportunity to thrive.

On Universal Children’s Day, we reaffirm our responsibility to protect their rights and ensure their voices are heard.

Here in Jefferson County, we are proud to work with Clay House Children’s Center, which provides a safe, child-friendly space for children impacted by abuse. With more than 200 cases supported in the past year, Clay House is a vital partner in protecting our most vulnerable and guiding families toward healing.

As District Attorney, I remain committed to doing everything possible to protect children from harm, reduce re-victimization, and build a safer, stronger future for children in our schools and every family in our community.

The final SAFEGuard session for the month is happening tomorrow, Thursday, November 20th, at 10:00 AM at the Bessemer Public Library.

Throughout this program, women across our community have come together to learn, heal, and grow — gaining new skills, building confidence, and finding strength through connection and support.

Thank you to everyone who has participated, volunteered, and helped make this program possible. Together, we’re creating pathways toward safety, empowerment, and hope.

Serving With a Purpose: Operation Python

In July 2017, DA Lynneice O. Washington launched Operation Python — the first task force in Jefferson County ever created by an elected District Attorney.

Organized to fulfill her promise of public safety, Operation Python united state, county, local, and federal law enforcement agencies. In just three months, the team removed 126 violent criminals from our communities, restoring safety and hope where it was needed most.

Operation Python was only the beginning. Since then, DA Washington has continued building partnerships and programs that address crime at its roots, always with the goal of keeping Jefferson County safer and stronger.

District Attorney Lynneice O. Washington remains committed to serving her community at her fullest capacity — leaving a permanent footprint for positive change in both the community and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, Bessemer Division.

Serving With a Purpose: Making History

On November 8, 2016, Lynneice O. Washington made history as the first Black woman elected District Attorney in the State of Alabama and in Jefferson County.
For DA Washington, there was never another career path imaginable — she always knew she wanted to be a lawyer. Her election was not only a personal milestone and historical feat, but a moment of progress and representation for the community she serves.

“I feel honored that the people in the Bessemer Cutoff had enough confidence in me to be the chief law enforcement officer in the cutoff,” Washington said.
Nine years later, her commitment remains the same: to serve with integrity, promote public safety, and leave a lasting footprint of positive change in Jefferson County.
