I love this quote so much. It is from an incredible book titled ‘The Astonishing Power of Emotions’ by one of my favorite authors, Esther Hicks. It has advised me on how to show up and best support the people around me, including friends, my family members, and especially my husband. A friend and I were briefly chatting about relationships and the feeling of being ‘tied down’ (in all sorts of meanings of the phrase) and this quote came to mind. Hello world!! 👋👋 I’m popping in here to share some thoughts as I’ve been noticing all the fun happenings this weekend - galas, birthdays, concerts, conferences, etc.
-
I want to bear my testimony of some things that I know to be true...
-
Single-handedly, our greatest power lies in our ability to choose where we place our focus (ie: our agency - that term will be familiar to many of you).
-
We may not be able to directly control the circumstances of our lives as efficiently as we’d like (chronic pain, the families we’re born into, etc); however, we can always choose our focus and where we place our attention.
-
It isn’t necessarily easy, especially when there are lots of things in front of us that seem to demand our attention and focus.
-
I bear testimony that if you practice your agency of being able to choose your focus, it will get easier - and your life will feel more empowering. As your life feels more empowering, it can’t help but change for the better.
-
Your pain may not go away, you may never resolve differences with your family, and the religion of your upbringing may never accept you - however, you WILL be able to grow, develop, and create a life of peace and happiness IF you keep choosing your focus DELIBERATELY.

I know this to be true because it is happening to ME! I have faced the opposition, been through therapy in an attempt to change who I am, felt that deep, hopeless sorrow of depression, and I’m still here! I know this truth not just by my own life, but by the many wonderful souls I know that have also faced hard times too.
-
So turn off the television. More importantly, be deliberate about who you follow on Insta and what populates your newsfeed. Have the willpower and FOCUS to put your phone down, change the conversation, or excuse yourself from the room.
-
You can be a wonderful advocate for change, even if it is only by your example of living a life of joy and happiness (and I would argue that is the BEST way - live by your example).
-
When you are aligned with your purpose and connected to who you really are, you will feel inspired to show up in the world and help make it a better place. taken in Thanksgiving Point by @jeffdonovan

I was reminded of something important this evening.
-
Yoga is not your studio. It’s not your teacher, it’s not your mat, and it’s not your outfit. There are so many things that yoga ‘isn’t’ that may stand in the way of your practice. Don’t let it. Yoga is so much more (or so much less) than what our thoughts may tell us. When that happens, we get to dismiss those thoughts and do the yoga anyway. Because that’s what it is - observing, acknowledging, appreciating, and breathing through it anyway. Breathe and be. Enjoy yoga.
