One of the fascinating things about living on a barrier island is that the coastline is dynamic and literally constantly changing every second of every day, right under your feet. I walk or ride down to Captain Sams Inlet, where the Kiawah River meets the Atlantic Ocean, multiple times per week. I take a lot of photographs there, because I realize that it will NEVER be exactly the same as it was in that moment. Tides, winds and waves make sure of that.

The Inlet is my South Carolina Snowflake. Enjoy this moment in time.

Crazy intricate patterns created in the sand via hydraulic and aeolian sorting of the light (quartzite) and 2X heavier dark (magnetite / ilmenite) particles in our beach sand.
