“I wanted to experience what they experienced. I didn’t know any other way to do it except by trying to build a car like they had.”

This 1959 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa recreation is not nostalgia. It is reverence. For owner and builder Peter Giacobbi, the goal was never a museum piece but to understand what driving at the limit meant in the 1950s, when bravery mattered as much as engineering.

The project began with a hand formed aluminum body that had sat untouched for decades. From there, Giacobbi rebuilt everything with obsessive care. A period correct chassis, authentic lights and instruments, and Ferrari running gear throughout. A correct 3.0 liter V12 proved impossible to source, so he chose a 4.4 liter engine and carefully reshaped the aesthetics to remain true to the original 250 TR.

Weighing just 2,300 lbs and making around 400 horsepower, the result is raw and demanding. “These cars are very hard to drive,” he says. “It’s pure seat of the pants.” And it is driven often. Sometimes just to the local coffee shop. Always with deep respect for the superhuman racers who once pushed machines like this to their limits.

What began life as a humble 1969 Porsche 912 evolved—over decades—into something entirely singular. Acquired in 1979, the car was stripped to its bare tub and meticulously rebuilt by Dieter Inzenhofer at ANDIAL, using factory Porsche race components few ever had access to.

Parts were drawn directly from Porsche’s racing canon: 3.0 RSR, 906, 935, and even 962, each chosen for lightness and performance. Aluminum and fiberglass body panels, acrylic windows, titanium hardware throughout—and at its heart, a 3.5-liter twin-plug flat-six producing around 350 horsepower.

With a curb weight of just ~1900 lb / 865 kg, the result is a one-of-a-kind street car—and, to current knowledge, the only fully ANDIAL-built road car from start to finish.

the myth, the legend, Chelsea Schuchman - I had the honour of working with her when I first started out over 10 years ago. This was my first shoot in Joshua Tree. She's since disappeared into obscurity, turning her back on California.
