This is the completed "Conehead," Menacing isn't it?

This process has been quite an interesting one as originally I hadn't intended for the face to appear as it does, I had thought it would've been a more anonymous cone shape but as I approached the lower area of the face it seemed compelled to separate from the form, which gave it more prominent features.

The reason for pinecones came from the abundance shed from a very large evergreen tree near my summer home upstate. I had originally planned to make it in the year prior but just couldn't at the time. But now seeing it come together as the mask you see today, it really seems to have quite a personality.

In the process of making the work we may intend a certain outcome, but as you learn from the work itself it changes your original resolve as you learn to "go with the flow." #conehead #art #mask #maskart #maskartist #contemporaryart #tribecaart #pineconeart #pinecone #cityartist #creativeexpression #masks4all #nycart #nycartscene by @jeffwayart

In 2024, @joshuacharow, a great cinematographer and photographer, made a 10 minute film, documenting Carolyn Oberst @oberst.carolyn and my early life as a couple in what was to become Tribeca. The film was shown 4 times in the 2024 NY COCS Film Festival. How Two Artists Fell in Love In the 1970’s NYC, has just been released on his YouTube channel.

The film has had a wonderful response and is very gratifying for Carolyn and me. Having been a part of the whole loft phenomenon and the struggle to legalize loft living, it is very gratifying to know that this artist’s form of urban development has become a model which spread to other areas in the City like Williamsburg and Red Hook. This idea has spread to other U.S. Cities as well. Then there’s our romance and dancing, which are quite connected. It has been very touching to see ourselves in the film and recall the depth and strength of our relationship’s enduring love. #Tribeca #loftliving #tribecaartists #nycphotogtraphy #nycart #environmentlaldesign #tribecaart by @jeffwayart

Collected most of these pine cones last year and added a few more this year. So, been planning to make this “Cone Head” mask for a while. Recently figured out how to create the structure and getting them on with my glue gun. Will post again when it’s finished and I can wear it! #mask #maskmaking #maskartist #masks #maskartwork #contemporaryartist #contemporaryart #tribeca #tribecaart #tribecaartist #maskmakers #masks4all #maskmaker by @jeffwayart

Using almost every drawing and painting technique in artistry, @jeffwayart is acclaimed for his chalk line grid paintings. He makes them with a carpenter’s chalk tool filled with powdered pigments. He then snaps the line across the canvas, creating nearly perfect grid lines with a do-it-yourself yardstick with nails. Much of this work, as well as his abstract pieces, are now on view at @storage.archive at 52 Walker St. until October 5. Then & Now displays Way’s work from 1970 to 2024, showing the striking contrast of flatness and depth on his canvases.
