Abu Dhabi, where do I even begin?

What a beautiful, intense, wild journey you've been.

I walked into a country where I knew no one and nothing, and slowly turned it into a place that knows me in every sense of the word. I figured out the new job, the new home, the bank account, the endless forms, the contracts, the decisions, and everything in between.

l've always been someone whom I feel has this inner strength and someone who makes bold choices, and I couldn't be more grateful that I took this opportunity that stretched every bone in my heart, mind, and soul.

When I decided to take this path, many people didn't understand why. After all, I had it all back home. I had a stable job during one of the worst crises our country had ever seen, a loving relationship, a supportive family, and amazing friends but there was still a voice inside me telling me that I was meant for more. That something beautiful was waiting for me on the other side to explore. That I should take the risk and say yes to this new chapter.

So, I took the leap.

Looking back now, I realize that this experience was meant to connect me with the people, lessons, and opportunities that would reveal just how much impact, magic, and resilience I possess.

Four years later, had traveled to countries I couldn't have pointed to on a map. I'd done things I never thought I was capable of. I'd succeeded in ways I never imagined. I'd met the most genuine people and formed some of the most beautiful, long-lasting friendships.

I've experienced motherhood without being a mother. Worked with the most supportive colleagues, who made every day feel lighter and more manageable.

Filled lonely spaces with purpose.
Endured the most devastating heartbreak.
Survived some of the hardest moments of my life.

And once you've done that on your own, something in you shifts. Something changes in the way you perceive things, in the way you move through life.

Nothing scares you anymore. Nothing limits you, breaks you, or makes you doubt your ability to start again.

And now, the exact same voice that told me to come here has told me that it's time to leave.

Somewhere between the treetops, the ocean and the sunset, I found a little stillness. 🧘‍♀️

Exactly what my soul needed. Maybe yours needs it too. 🍃

Travel makes you realize that you’re not better or smarter, you’re just lucky to have been born where you were. 🍀

We complain about studying because we have access to education. We complain about where we live because we have a home. We complain about our loud families because we’ve never had to be separated from them. We complain about traffic because we have a car. We complain about cooking because we have food to cook.

Until we’re reminded that the things we complain about are the things someone else prays for.

Still can’t get over the children center I visited in Kenya. I don’t want to expose or focus on how difficult their living conditions are, I just want to shine a light on how we can help if we’re able to because what feels ordinary to us can be lif changing to someone else.

I also don’t want to talk much about what I did, because I’m no hero but one thing I can say is: whenever you have the opportunity to make someone’s life a little better and brighter, just do it. It doesn’t matter how big or small the gesture is or where you are. What matters is the intention behind all you do. 🗺️

Ways to help

🎓 Sponsor a child’s education

🍎 Donate food and essential supplies

👕 Donate clothes and school materials

🏥 Support healthcare and medical needs

💧 Help with clean water and irrigation projects

☀️ Support solar power and other essential equipment

🏠 Contribute towards renovations and improving their living spaces

🌱 Support farming projects to help create sustainable food sources

🤝 Volunteer your time, skills or expertise

📢 Share their story and raise awareness so more people can support them

If you’d like more details on how you can contribute, comment “HELP” and I’ll send you the details. 💌 taken in Watamu, Kenya, Africa by @jen_beyond.borders

When some people knew I was traveling to Kenya, most of them told me it's unsafe and advised me not to go especially as a solo female traveler and tbh I hear comments like this every time I travel solo no matter the country.

Writing this post for all the people who feel the urge to travel alone but let other people's opinions and fears influence their decision from having the best time of their lives so here it goes: every country can be safe and unsafe at the same time.. It's not a simple yes or no question. It's context. It's timing. It's where you are. It's awareness. And it's also perception.

Bad things can and do happen everywhere in every country and every city.

Here I am in the middle of the beach with almost no one around because it was an off season, surrounded by a group of local guys doing their best to entertain me while I spent the day with them, singing, dancing, chatting, laughing, and bonding over genuine and simple things.

If there's anything to take from this post is that solo travel requires awareness, confidence, and the ability to trust your intuition.

Always remember: fear spreads faster than facts, and stories often travel further than reality. So if Kenya is on your list and all you've heard is "it's not safe," my advice is simple: be aware, not afraid. Travel with common sense. Respect the place you're in, but don't let a narrative steal a destination from you before you've even arrived.

What’s your opinion on this? Have you ever traveled solo? If you want to travel solo but feel hesistant, you can reach out to me. I can help you plan a safe and well-curated solo trip with trusted transport, accommodation suggestions, and everything you need to feel confident while traveling, especially in destinations I’ve personally been to! 💌 taken in Watamu, Kenya, Africa by @jen_beyond.borders
